Topic: Beck Group meeting tonight in Raleigh

Hi All,

As many of you now know, I host in person support group meetings in Raleigh NC throughout the month and tonight we are having the 'Beck Group'. Please know that anyone is welcome to attend and it doesn't matter where you are in your journey. Just know that they discussions at this meetings are directed towards issues that interest people who are interested in identifying and finding ways to manage behaviors that might impede our weight loss or maintenance of our weight loss. The meetings are based on the book and workbook by Dr. Judith Beck, called the 'Beck Diet Solution.' You do not need a copy of the book to attend, but it would be helpful in the longer term.

If you are interested in joining us, please RSVP at www.meetup.com/nc-wls so that I'll know how many people will be joining us. You can get the address and details when you RSVP.

I hope to see you there!

Hi Barb,
I am delighted to report the wonderful desserts that  were in front of me at Thanksgiving no longer shout my name.
For that I am grateful.
I have a sliver of pumkin pie and was totally happy.

Hi All --

My name is Celia, and I'm a stay-at-home mom to  three children. I have been battling obesity my entire life. At one point, I lost over 100 lbs -- only to gain it all back, and then some.

I'm here today, weighing in at 273 lbs -- I'm only 5'2", so that puts my BMI right up around 50. I never thought I would ever get this big... especially when I lost my weight and was 140 lbs soaking wet.

I'm giving it one more shot, to try and change my lifestyle once and for all... find something that works for ME permanantly...

I look forward to being inspired by everyone here! Thank you for having me!

Topic: Do you have a plan for the holidays?

I don't know about you, but I think that Thanksgiving has to be one of my all time favorite holidays. That said, it's also one that has ruined me in the past. Of course, one of the things I'll be giving thanks for this year is knowing that I won't 'ruin' myself this year because I have my 'tool', but also because I have a plan. I don't really think it matters what your plan is, but it does matter that you have one. I don't think it really matters which surgery you had or where you are in your journey, but what does matter is thinking about what you are going to do and then following through.

For me, I know that among other things, I will have pumpkin pie with whipped cream, but I'll probably work to reduce some of the carbs while maintaining the flavor.

* I'll limit how much I have and be aware of how much of whatever it is that I'm consuming.

* I'll load with protein before carbs and fats, but to be honest, I'll have carbs and fats and I'll enjoy them without feeling guilty because I have a plan.

* I'll also go for a walk to help walk some of it off.

* I'll be sure to go a little leaner a day or two before Thanksgiving and a couple of days after... Probably a few more protien and salad based meals, dropping the amount of carbs.

* I'll weigh myself to keep an eye on how I'm doing. Don't get me wrong. I'm not obsessing of freaking out about the upcoming holiday.

I'm actually feeling really confident and comfortable about the approaching holiday knowing that the combination of my tool and my choices will hold me in good stead, allowing me to maintain my hard won losses... and the health and quality of life gains that came with them.

So.... What is your plan for the holidays?

Topic: One Warm Coat

Do you have one warm coat that is too big for you now?

One Warm Coat is a project that helps to clothe those who need a warm coat to help them through the cold months. I know that many of us find ourselves in the unique position of not needing some of the warm coats we have used in the past. Of course we all know how hard it is to find larger clothing and how expensive it can be, so if you have warm coat that is in good condition that you think might help someone, please consider donating it to this lovely campaign.

We will collect coats at our December Support Group meeting and deliver them to the Raleigh Burlington Coat factory, but if you are unable to attend that event and want to donate a coat, please do. For information about location near you, you can find locations here.

Wishing you all a lovely, warm holiday season.

Topic: RE: RNY Revision

Dear GBC,

I hope that you will get some responses. I know that we have a few members that have had revisions. I believe the revisions that I'm aware of have been from lapband to rny. I would like to suggest that you consider cross posting  this note to the revisions forum and possibly main forums as well. Sometimes casting a wider net will garner you more fish to filet... if you know what I mean.

Wishing you all the best,

Topic: RE: Introductions
Hello! My name is Ana and I'm 31 years old. I am Brazilian, with Portuguese nationality and living in the Netherlands. When I was a child I was not fat but never thin either. I started gaining weight when I was a teenager and on age 14 I started to try diets and spent some vacaiton in SPAs (my mom is also overweight so I'd go with her). Everyt ime I would lose a lot of weight and later on put it back with some extra (as I think most of us). Now that I am maybe thinking of having kids I couldn't bear the thought of carrying even more weight and also risk my life and the child's. Well, being a mother can wait but I decided that having a healthy body cannot! When I can't anymore get home without stopping to rest (I live on the 3rd floor with no lift) and every day just to wear my socks is a nightmare I think it's time.

So I am set for my laparoscopic RNY gastric bypass on Jan, 7th, 2010. So far I am dealing with it pretty okay. No fears whatsoever. My biggest issue is that because my Dutch is not that good I can't really go into a support group in here and living so far away from my family and close friends might be a problem on the first days/weeks of "what have I done?" feeling. And that's why I am trying to search this support in the internet.
