The Loser's Bench

Well the Monday blues went all right. All this week I am in training and also have some scheduled appointments I must attend. But overall, I just thank God to be in the land of the living. I received some really sad news today. A close family friend who I refer to as my aunt died today from breathing complications. God it was so shocking! She was scheduled to have surgery on the 26th of this month. Please keep her family and friends in prayer. Thank you.

How was your day yesterday? What are your plans for today? Please share.
As far as yesterday went, just let me say "I hate Mondays"! Mondays are bad enough on their own but to have been off for 3 days before, it just plain sucked. Not that I need to add more to that but I was chilled all day yesterday, even with the space heater under my desk.
For today, I am back on liquids as Ms. Picky is on a rampage! I was up all night with very painful gas! I think I irritated her with milk based food. I did take lactaid with my protein pudding yesterday, but I don't think it was enough. I am more intolerant as time goes on.
I will be on my Gazelle this morning for at least 30 minutes before I get ready for work. Today will be more catch up at work, lots of protein shakes, broth and hot tea will be included in my day. Nothing exciting today.
So please let me know what is on you mind, agenda, etc.
Have a Wonderful day!

Yesterday was all about my DH is his love of football. He was very disappointed in his Eagles. But we still had a very enjoyable day and relaxing evening.
Although I dread the thought of work today, I welcome the structure the day will bring with it.
I actually got out of bed a little later than I needed, so I am behind in getting ready for my day. I had scheduled my exercise for this morning, but will have to reschedule for this evening after work. I am determined to make sure I have at least 30 minutes 3-5 times a day. I feel this is the missing link in reaching my goal.
Since Mondays are really chaotic for me, I really have not planned anything for today but to get through my day at work and get on my gazelle at home before dinner.
It is really cold outside this morning , I need to layer so I will not feel cold inside. I do not seem to be able to tolerate cold or a chill at all anymore.
Hope you all have a WONDERFUL day!
Bre, I hope you have a good day at work. It is really going to be hard to get back into the structure of the work day.

"Our" group has 490 members now, but it does not show the activity that promotes the support we all need. So I decided to start a daily post here that seems to be catching on at another Forum that I also visit, the NC forum. My hope is that everyone will contribute/share their thoughts for their day and reflections on yesterday. Soooooo.............

Yesterday was a very, very relaxing day for me. I spent the morning reading in front of the fireplace and then we watched movies all afternoon. I got absolutely NOTHING accomplished as we ate leftovers, so no cooking. I haven't had a day like this in a long, long time.
Today is Sunday so we are off to Smokey Bones for football. It will be nice to not have to worry about the tobacco smoke anymore. This is something my DH loves doing and we have made a lot of friends over the last 2 football seasons at Smokey Bones. I catch up on my reading as I am not a football fan. Being the oldest of 5 children I was conditioned early on to tune out the noise around me when I read.
Then it will be home again for more football on tv (The Eagles game will be televised at 4 pm) DH is an Eagles fan and more leftovers for dinner. I still have some of that yummy white chicken chili that I made on Tuesday and this should fini**** up.
It will be hard to get to bed early tonight since I have been staying up late and waking up so much later. No naps for me today.
Hope Everyone has an enjoyable day today!
I wish you a healthy, happy new year!
I know in my head that New Year's is just a change on the calendar, but like many, I find it to be a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future.
I am taking stock of just how far I have come in the past year. From a weight loss/management perspective, 2009 was a challenging year. I was a bit 'too thin' in 2008 and bounced back to weight range that seemed comfortable and healthy for the most part; 143 to 147. During the holidays, I put on a few lbs and I have to admit it rattled me a bit. The good news is that I put my tool to work and was able to strip off the extra weight and am back down to the top of my weight range. I'll probably look at dropping it down a few more so that i have some cushion. As I look forward to the new year, I'll probably work toward trying to finally become more physically active. It's the missing link in my armor and something I need work on.
Do you have any resolutions for the new year or are you done making them? Please share your thoughts on the new year.

What is your favorite WLS friendly snack?
Hmmm... That changes. In the beginning, I was hooked on Wendy's chili and then sort of got tired of it. I love cheeses, but have to be careful since they are high in fats and I had an RNY instead of DS ;-)... I make a mean dip that is WLS friendly and love that. Deviled eggs are great for me. I use creamed cottage cheese instead of mayo and the rest of the recipe is normal... It makes a great, satisfying snack that doesn't blow me out of the water. I couldn't really handle deviled eggs very well during the first 6 month though.
Last movie you saw in a movie theater?
Love Happens with Jennifer Anniston. I plan to go see 'It's Complicated' with some friends from my support group between Christmas and New Years.
Do you have a BFF?
I have a bunch... One for this, one for that... Some of my oldest, dearest friends are still in CA. One is my sister-in-law, Norma who is more like a blood sister to me. One is my best friend Karen. I helped to deliver all three of her children and she was there when I delivered my daughter, Sarah. I have several best friends here in NC: Lisa is a friend from here on OH... One of many blessings this journey has bestowed on me and another is my friend Donna who I knew before this journey and who embarked on her own WLS journey this year.... Yet another thing we share. I'm lucky that I'm friends with my daughter... I'm her mother first, but I imagine that as she becomes a woman, we'll move into that wonderful, wonder filled friendship unique to mothers and their daughters.
What is your favorite time of day?
Early morning and late evening when the house is relatively quiet.
What is your favorite way to relax?
A good massage.
How much H20 do you drink a day?
To be honest, I'm pretty bad about this. I was really good about managing my fluid intake when I was losing, but I"m not as good about it now and it's something I could work on.
What is your biggest struggle?
Managing stress and not using carbs to comfort myself when I'd stressed. I have to actively think about what I'm doing so that I don't sabotage myself. I try to have at least 3 ounces of protein first if I just have to indulge in carbs. That seems to take the edge off it. I can't do as much damage because there just isn't enough real estate and I am thinking about it. All these things help.
List your 3 best WOW moments?
My son's hugging me and getting their arms all the around me so that they could grasp their elbows with their opposite hands when they hugged me.
Seeing light between my legs. My pants don't wear out between the thighs anymore!
Being able to try on any gown I wanted and to have them fit!!! Sometimes they even had to clip them tighter in the back!
Do you like being in pictures?
While I don't think I would say that I was truly camera shy before, I am generally, reasonably comfortable now. I am still very self conscious about my turkeyneck, bat wings and spare tire though... In some ways maybe as much as I was before about my excess weight. I'm still working on this.
What can you do now that you couldn’t do before WLS?
Tie my shoes and breathe, sit in a booth and breathe, fit in an airplane seat with room to spare, shop in any store I want to, sit on my husband's lap without fear of cutting off his circulation, wear a single digit size, manage the summer heat, walk and walk and walk... Too many to list, but this is a good start.

I'd like to get to know one another, so I thought I'd try doing this getting to you thread once in a while to see if we can do just that... Get to know one another.
It's important to have the support as you approach WLS and during your first year, but it's also important to maintain support as we move further out. I look forward to getting to know you.
