Hi Mary,

It looks like you are working your band for all it's worth and reaping the benefits. I can really relate to your wow moments. Being able to cross your legs is something that 'normal' sized people take for granted, but is a real benchmark for many of us. It seems that as that marker passes, we also find that we are able to do so many of the other things that the rest of the world can do and take for granted. I don't know that I will ever take these things for granted.

I also really understand your concern about gaining the weight back, but to be honest, that concern is a good thing. Those who are not concerned are most likely to experience regain. We have all lost and regained so many times, it's natural to question, even doubt if you'll really succeed this time. But remember, you never had the tool you have now before. This tool will not only allow you to get the weight off, but also the time to learn the behaviors that will hold you in good stead in the long term.

Your question about whether this ever gets easier is a good one. I really think that we have a 3 part journey to weight loss. The first is deciding to do what we need to do to get it off, that includes the decision to have surgery, deciding which surgery and going through the pre-surgery testing and evaluation process. The second is where you are now, the weight loss phase where you are actively working on getting that excess weight off. For many, this stage takes an enormous amount of focus and to be honest, more so for those who opt for a restriction only solution as you have. The final stage, maintenance takes a different type of focus and concentration, but it is a bit like riding a bike. Once you get it, you'll be fine.

Again, congratulations on your progress to date and wishing you continued success,

Any WOW moments? I can cross my legs!  (Got so excited when I realized it - I had my son take a picture!  LOL!!);  I flew back here to Ohio from San Francisco bay area  for the birth of my first great grand daughter and didn't require a seat extender on the airplane!  That felt great!!!!!  I am walking, breathing and generally enjoying most thing "living" not just existing!

Do you have any concerns? Struggle daily to try and get all supplements and protein in....  and the usual...  is this for real this time or will I gain it back????    I constantly feel like I am fighting to maintain my focus!  Does this ever get easier??  LOL!!

If you always do what you always did - You will always get what you always got!
God help me change the only one its in my power to change....ME!

Hi Kara,

Welcome and no, you are not in the 'wrong' place. Most people still have the RNY, so there are proportionately more RNY patients, but this is an inclusive group that has representation from just about every surgery type available. While there are some differences in the experiences that people have from one surgery type to another, it has been my experience that overall, the experiences have much more in common than you might imagine.

Like you and just about everyone else that I know of that has gone through this experience, I have to say that this truly is a life changing experience in ways that I could not have imagined before. I look forward to hearing about your experiences as your new life unfolds.

Seems as if most people in this group had the RNY, so hoping I didn't join a members-only group by accident!! Hope not! :)

How do you feel?  Well I haven't felt any weight loss yet, but I am very excited about the opportunity to make this life changing decision for myself and get on to living my life the way it was supposed to be lived!  I am really wanting this ball to start moving so I can have the surgery and be on the downside, like so many of these wonderful posts I've read! :)

Any WOW moments?  Other than the negative WOW of getting on the scale at my surgeon's office, not so much!  I have felt very WOWed reading posts on the OH website though.  So encouraging and inspiring!

Do you have any concerns?  I am blessed to have a supportive group of people surrounding me.  At this point I honestly don't have concerns because I am ready to give up my unhealthy relationship with food.  My only concern is making sure I do what it takes to get through this surgery with no problems and come out on the other side as a better me!

Thanks everyone!

Kara :-)

Donna,

I'm glad to hear that you are getting the support you need from your siblings and I understand about deciding who to have close and who to keep at arms length. You need to do what is best for you right now.

Wishing you all the best,

Hi Lucy,

Thanks for the support and compliments.

You can post your progress on your 'profile' or blog. Click on the 'My OH' tab on the blue bar above and a drop down menu will appear. Click on the 'blog' option and your blog window will appear. Any posts you have in your blog will be listed by title. You will also see tabs that allow you to 'write' an entry. I hope that helps.

Hi Lucy,

It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job. I'm about 5'6" and I'm down to the mid/low 130's and that's a little small for me... you can see recent photos of me at my son's wedding on my profile, but to be honest, I don't think I look too bad. So, while I really do understand your not wanting to get to thin, I think you'll probably be fine if you stop somewhere in the neighborhood.

Keep up the good work!
