Topic: Do you think you'll ever be able to have your 'cake' and eating too?

Have you ever wondered if you will ever be able to 'eat normally' again. I know that I did and wasn't sure that I would. I can tell you that now, more than 3 years post op, I do.

First, I should let you know that my 'normal' has changed in many ways, but there are times when I want to have a juicy cheeseburger, and I do just that. That said, I used to cook more like Paula Deen and now I have made some changes. Many of those changes are due to my learning to cook smarter while still being able to enjoy some of the lovely things I used love. Here are some things that I posted in response to another members post saying that she sorely missed being able to have a juicy burger or wonderful pasta dish:

Check out Devin Alexander's rendition of a BBQ Cheeseburger. It weighs in with an impressive 33 grams of protein and only 'costs' you about 300 calories. While making this a daily staple might not be realistic, you can definitely have your cheeseburger and still keep your hardwon healthy new weight.

It is normal to 'mourn' the foods we once loved, but I have to say that I have been able to successfully re-invent most of my favorites, I think that if you look at cookinglight.com or LifeTime's Cook Yourself Thin, or Devin Alexander's Healthy Decadence (book and/or TV show) you find that it is very possible to have your cake and eat it too... so to speak. Meaning that with a few tweaks, many things are very accessible and will support your longterm goals of maintaining the healthy weight, quality of life and lifestyle you have fought so hard to achieve. I made a wonderful (if I do say so myself) Beef Stroganoff for dinner last night and use some Barilla Pasta Plus for the pasta portion, which means that even the pasta brought a good 17 grams of protein per cup to the party.

Hi my name is Sabrina and I am from Colorado. I am 27 and I have 4 Boys ages 11, 7, 5, and 2. I have been with my DH 12 years. They are my life and one of the reasons why I want to live a long time.  I have always been overweight. I lost my mother 4 years ago and that sent me into a deep depression which led me to my highest weight of 372. I have lost down to 336 and finally have a surgery date scheduled for November 8Th. I am ready to have my life back and play football with these wonderful boys of mine. I chose the Gastric Bypass It was the right chose for me Its nice to meet you all and I look forward to this journey together...

Topic: New to the group. Hi Everyone..
Hi Everyone, My name is Sabrina and I have been looking into surgery for the last 5 years. Nothing ever went right and I either didnt have insurance or the money to pay so thats why I havent gotten surgery yet. I went to my consoltation on the 24th and I finally have the insurance and I got a surgery date. It is November 8th. I am super excited and have waited along time to have the tools to help me get all this weight off. I have 4 boys who are super excited for their mother to play some football with them. I am happy to get to join this group and meet all of you who are going through the process or who have already had surgery and can offer us who havent your wise advice. Well I wanted to drop in and say hi. Feel free to add me to your friends list. My email is [email protected]. I am always looking for new friends and any advise you can give me before and after surgery...

Topic: RE: Good Morning!!
Hi Barb,

It's 4:00 am on Sunday morning.  On most nights I am awake by 3:00 am - compliments of menopause and my husband's work schedule.  Anyway, I am doing what I always do this time of the morning.  I have taken my first round of calcium and am drinking a protein shake while reading the latest on ObesityHelp.  Mid-morning I will take my 2.5 to 3 mile walk and help my husband mow the lawn.  Like you, the heat is much more tolerable.  Texas weather can be hot, but since having surgery I no longer hibernate indoors during summer months.  Then this evening I will walk again, if not outside then on my treadmill.  I will probably eat grilled chicken and vegetables for dinner and pinto beans for lunch, but I am not entirely sure.  I do not have the day planned out, per se, but I do plan to spend much of it outdoors.
