Like you I plan to move more (probably walking), eat more fruit & veggies, and declutter the house. Now I need to get SMART! Happy New Year!

I had my Lap-Band surgery on 12/15/10.  I am doing very well.  I was happy that the procedure was much less painful then my previous laparoscopic surgeries.

I decided to have this done because my health issues were hard to ignore anymore. I have sleep apnea and hypertension but when the back and knee pain started they were much harder to brush aside.  I knew I could lose weight but I was never any good at keeping it off.  I did not want to fail again.  I found out the my insurance would cover the surgery and I decided to go for it.  I am so glad I did.  I actually find myself planning for the time when I am thin.  I know I can do it with this extra tool in my arsenal.

I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Topic: What are your New Year's Resolutions?
I am looking forward to a wonderful 2011. I am going to move more, love more, live life, look at things from a different perspective and let things go, and find ways to take better care of myself. Now I need to find ways to articulate these so that they become SMART goals (or Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely) so that they will actually happen.  What are your New Year's resolutions?

Topic: Introduction and Question
Hi everyone! I just joined the group.

A little bit about myself..

I am Mom of seven year old twins.

I enjoy my crazy job but I am trying to find balance in life which will help me be a better person all the way around. My family and friends say sometimes lets stoop talking about that.

I had RNY on 12/13 and looking forward to the journey.

QUESTIONS....

If you are not drinking the 64 oz of water will that hinder your weight loss?

I am trying to introduce food slowly back into my diet like string cheese but it doesn't stay down. Has anyone else experienced that? .....I was so happy when I could have something other than a liquid but then when it came back up..I wasn't so happy

Have a great day and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Topic: I'm sorry that I've been out of commission...
We have had a tough year and has continued with my MILs illness and passing in late November. On top of that I slipped and fell, hurting my back and breaking my wrist. There have been other major struggles as well, so I haven't been online much lately. I'm hoping it will get better soon and I'll try to be more active.

Topic: Had my Surgery and now adjusting to my new life...
The surgery is over and now here I go with this new life of mine.  I get full really easy and dont have any appetite right now.  My mother is over at my house helping me and even when she cooks, I dont feel like eating, which is weird to me BUT I realize that I am still in the early stage of this.  I will not even talk about the GAS...I am adjusting and also trying to make it without taking the pain pills....Sometimes it is good but I have had a few days when I wondered, what the hell have I done.  I pray that this gets better!

Prayers, Support and advise are all welcome!

Take care!

Topic: RE: limit on fills?

I'm so sorry for the misunderstanding. I haven't had a lapband, but have members that have. Some have had the experience that you are mentioning. One of the things that they do is make sure to load with very dense protein and of course stay away from anything that could or would tend to liquify the bolus or ball that the protein creates so that it acts like a stopper keeping the food in the pouch longer. Be sure to wait at least 30 minutes after drinking before consuming a meal and at least 30 minutes after eating before drinking again. Between meals be sure that you are getting in at least 4 to 6 cups of low calorie liquids between meals. This helps to keep you hydrated and sometimes hydration will give you the sensation of hunger.

If it were me, I would be keeping a detailed journal of what I'm consuming, including weights and measures. It's possible that in doing so you may find that you can make some positive adjustments that will improve your outcome, but if not, you will be able to document for your Dr. what you are eating and how much of it you are eating so that they can make a determination about either making additional adjustments or seeing if you need to have something else done. You can use a site, www.mydailyplate.com to document what you are consuming. I would use measuring spoons, cups and a scale to ensure accuracy. If you can document your consumption and it is both the 'types' of foods that your pouch should retain for a while and they are within the caloric range your Dr. wants you to use, that should provide ammunition to get some support from the Dr.

Here are some links with information about lapbands usage that might be interesting/helpful:

http://www.obesitylapbandsurgery.com/nutrition.html

You might look at this website and talk with your Dr about what you have been doing and if how you feel looks like what they consider the 'Yellow Zone' instead of the 'Green Zone' you want to be with your band.  http://www.lapband.com/en/live_healthy_lapband/about_adjustments/

I hope that this helps.

u misunderstood.  i KNOW mine is limit of 9... i have 7 cc, how much further have others gone with 2 cc left to do?  my surgeon is no help.  just tells me to count calories, expects me to diet, when diets have never worked with me, tried em all.  i have NEVER gotten to the RIGHT fill as described in info on lapbands.  what would YOU do in my situation?
