How do you feel?

I 'feel' decades younger. I am much more physically active because it's so much easier to get around. I walk everywhere now. Instead of looking for the parking space closest to the door, I look for the one that has the most shade, no matter where it is. I handle the heat so much more easily than I ever did before; I probably will never really like the sultry, hot summers in NC, but at least now I can handle them. I doubt that I will ever truly enjoy yard work, but I enjoy being 'able' to do it.

Any WOW moments?

My son just got married last weekend. I had purchased a gown for the event last summer and had taken to my tailor for the minor alterations. I had to take it in again so that they could alter it down because I'm smaller this year than I was last year.

My son lives in San Jose CA, which is where we are from and we moved to NC about 9 years ago, so many of my friends have seen me once or twice, since the weight loss, but not often. When I went to my old hair dresser to have my hair done for the wedding I was at the shop before it opened, my hair dresser has known me more than 25 years and she said that she didn't recognize me when she saw me sitting in the parking lot.

Do you have any concerns?

I found that when I was so very stressed with the events of the past few months that I was missing many of my medication and supplement doses. I'm working on getting that back on track. I realize that being sure to be compliant with my supplementation is critical to my long term health. I know that being well is not just about wearing a smaller size, but about taking care of my body and I'm working on doing just that.

Hi Lucy,

Thanks for the support and compliments.

You can post your progress on your 'profile' or blog. Click on the 'My OH' tab on the blue bar above and a drop down menu will appear. Click on the 'blog' option and your blog window will appear. Any posts you have in your blog will be listed by title. You will also see tabs that allow you to 'write' an entry. I hope that helps.

How do you feel?

I feel alot better. I am getting alot more done. I didn't realize how much time food took in my life. It is much more relieving to get so much done in a day and not be tired. I was never motivated and now I love to do stuff. I'm working on going to culinary school to be a bariatric chef in hopes to create better recipes for those of us who are picky eaters. I want to help people become healthier in tastey ways.

Any WOW moments?

I always wanted to be small enough to by name brand jeans. I went out and bought some yesterday!! They were the largest size they had.. but hey.. I would have never fit in them before this!

Do you have any concerns?

I work nights which is causing me alot of issues as far as figuring out when I'm supposed to be eating/ taking my vitamins. I've decided that in order to remedy this, I"m gonna move to a day schedule.

Even though you just started your journey, you are making fantastic progress. Not just with the scale, but by recognizing some of the lifestyle changes necessary to support your long term success.

I wish you all the best as you study the culinary arts. I have to tell you that I was a pretty darned good cook prior to WLS and one of the things that concerned me was not knowing how to cook for my new life. I used to cook 'a la Paula Deen or the Bare Foot Contessa', but now, three years post op, I have learned to modify some recipes to reduce the fat and simple carbs and create new ones that had never occured to me before. I still am a good cook, but I cook much differently than I used to.

How do you feel? Tired, depressed, scared

Any WOW moments?
When I looked at a current picture and relized how big i actually was. I knew there was a reason I never took pictures of myself.

Do you have any concerns? My concern is what if I gain the weight back once I have the surgery. What if things change between me and my husband. what if i die during surgery? i am also concerned that I will not be able to lose the rest of the weight to get the surgery. i probably wont be able to rest until I have gotten to my goal wight. Then maybe I can stop worrying. Maybe.

Do you have any concerns? Getting the support I need from my family and friends around me.

Donna,

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. Life is about to change in so many positive ways for you and I'm sure that you will be shopping for 'normal' sized clothes.

Re getting support from family and friends. Have you shared with any of them what you need and want? Sometimes we assume that others know what we need and want and we do come right out and articulate it. My mother was really afraid of my having the surgery and wasn't particularly supportive. I let her know what I wanted and needed. I also invited her to come with me to some of my appointments and support group meetings. This helped both of us.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

Hi Barbara;

Thank you for the reply.  Actually my older sister has been amazing she went showing and purchased a hand mixer, all the "mini" pans and pots that I'd require for after the surgery...of course weeks later.  My second oldest sister purchased the little appetizer plates for me and a really nice glass for me so I can drink my water.  My sister's are terrific.  My friend (Margaret) that I have known for close to 10yrs will be taking me to the hospital and then picking me up again when it's time to come home.  She then will be staying with me for the first 48 hours.
I do and will not tell my mom about this surgery.  My mom and I have never gotten along and she is
very controlling.  When I was six months pregnant she complainted to me that I was gaining weight....aren't you suppose too...go figure.  Anyway I don't need the negatlivity from her in my life at this stage.
My roommate soon to be moving...which I can't wait is really not supportive, which hurts considering
who she is. I'm recently separated withing the last 7 months and he tells my friend, Margaret the he supportive but doesn't show it to me.
Anyways, thank you so much for the reply letter and it's just that I have to slow down and breath and everything will be fine I'm sure.

Cheers
Donna
