Giving yourself credit...

As many of you know, I love the 'Beck Diet Solution' and giving ourselves credit where credit is due is one of the exercises that appears in the book.

Dieters need to give themselves credit for every positive diet and exercise-related behaviors they do.  For instance, every time they stop eating before they’re overfull (Day 18), get back on track after straying (Day 20), eat slowly and mindfully (Day 5), or do any kind of exercise (Day 9), they need to say something to themselves, such as “Great,” or “Good, I did it.” Many people who have struggled with their weight are hard on themselves and overly self-critical.  By consciously recognizing the dozens of things they do right each day, dieters build up their self-confidence and awareness that they’re strong and in control.

It's important to recognize and articulate the things we are doing well. Sometimes, I think it even makes it easier to do the things we know that we need to do to keep us on track as we make our way to our healthiest selves.

I'd like to have everyone tell some things they did in the past week that they deserve credit for.

So... come on, tell us what you've done this week that you deserve credit for. Did you go for walk? Did you log your intake? Did you take your supplements? Did you ....

I went for a mile walk, yesterday evening.  I only eat 1/4 cup at each meal, unless I get full before, then I stop.  I eat 4 times a day.  I drink two protein drinks a day and I take my vitamins daily.  I don't take my Actigall right now, it makes me sick to my stomach.

Hi Vickie,

It looks like you are on your way to long-term success because you are not only losing the weight, which to be honest, would happen even if you did nothing..., But the important thing is that you are making the lifestyle changes that will help you to maximize the losses you will experience and the ability to keep off the weight in the long term. Studies have shown that those who make life-style changes are much more likely to experience longterm success. And isn't that what this journey is really about?

Wishing you continued success,

Hi Vera,

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well and I hope that you'll be on the  mend soon.

Listening to your body and learning when you 'feel full' is HUGE! Congratulations!

Keep up the good work.

In the past week I have endured the surgery recovery process. I've stayed on liquids for 3 weeks now. I'm really proud of myself for sticking strictly to the liquid diet and not eating one morsel of solid food.  I'm healing now and able to get in 65-70 grams of protein a day and now feel my energy level rising so I'm able to move and walk more. I'm taking my daily supplements as instructed.
I am being very cautious to not do anything that maybe could cause a leak. From previous experience, this is my main focus right now. Dr V said with VSG surgery, if you were going to get a leak, it would be in the first 3-4 days after surgery so I hope and pray I'm past the danger point.
Still worried though but so far so good.
I really am very proud of myself and my husband is so very supportive and encouraging.
He has taken great care of me. We are going out today to GNC and Walmart and walk and walk.

Pam,

Congratulations on such a great start. It sounds like you have your ducks in a row and the support you need to make this journey as effective as possible. Keep doing all of the things your program calls for and we'll be sharing clothes in no time!

eating VERY mindfully.... chewing slowly at least 20-30 times (even though I'm still only on soft foods and it's pretty hard to get that many chews in except with the Taco Bell Vegetarian Fat Free Refried Beans), and savoring the flavor and texture of the food fully, instead of just "in passing".  I also deserve credit for MOSTLY getting in all my liquids, I even take a bottle of water INTO bed with me so my hand can find it in the night, and take a swig every time I open my eyes for any reason.  If I get through a whole bottle, and most nights it's close, that's 16 ounces to give me a head start on my day.

I gave myself credit for accepting a compliment the other day.
In the past accepting compliments has been hard for me to do I guess mainly because I never felt worthy of them.
I work very very hard at recording my intake and fitness.
I am proud of me for taking care of me.
