I am 10days post op and have been whining and depressed about not eating and hurting, w much abd swelling.  About 3 days ago the hunger is more manageble and I saw my doctor today...32lb lost....sooooo happy. I am off all diabetic meds since day after surgery. I also found out the liver bx show my fatty liver has fibrous scarring...meaning I was on my way to non alchoholic chirrosis..BAD..fatty liver is #1 cause of non alchoholic cirrhosis.  Now since found early and I am on my way to losing weight and low fat eating...my liver can regenerate and become healthy again.

Hi Kat,

Congratulations on the weight lost. I'm sure that your liver will recover and you will end up much healthier than you have been in decades.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

Yes, I am feeling much better. The thing that amazes me is my mental outlook. I have had chronic depression all my life (garbage childhood plus genetics..mother severely depressed)   and now, since surgery, I am happy for the first time in years...I just don't know what to do with myself. I want to get out and do something but I have no idea what!!!  I do have goals when I lose this weight,,,I want to learn how to scuba dive and take a "walking vacation" in spain or Italy.  But I want to do something NOW, and really with my weight and knees, I am limited.  And my next question...is this going to last??  I dont know why I feel so good, but I LIKE IT. Is this how most people feel?? Wow.

Hi Kat,

If you check my profile, you will see that I too have suffered from severe clinical depression for years. I know that my Dr's were concerned that I would have negative depressive episodes associated with my WLS, but I didn't find that to be the case at all. That's not to say that I don't still struggle, but my WLS journey has not negatively impacted me at all and I would say that in some ways it has helped.

I might suggest that you find some things to do now that you can take forward with you later. I don't know if you have interest things like scrapbooking... It's a great way to document and journal your journey. It's something you can do now, but carry forward as you take your walking tour of europe.

Wishing you all the best and continued success,

Barbara
