Hi Kathy!
My best suggestion is "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies." Yes, it is a book, but the way it is set up it is a very easy read and you don't have to read it all the way through. It's a great reference guide and I know I would have been lost without it and this group.
He could also post here if he likes; I for one would be happy to answer his questions if I can and I know there are others that will as well.
Good luck and I look forward to reading your posts and welcoming you to the loser's bench at the end of June!

Hi Patrece,
I am wondering if i am going to have a problem with the protein shakes and post surgery diet
I am allergic to gluten and also milk products (caseine). I can eat a serving a week or so but if more of either, i get sick or react in some way. Any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks!
Kathy

Hi Kimerbly,
Thanks for sharing. I have been looking for a resource that my husband could also read / more geared to him for understanding and support. I have not had surgery yet, scheduled for June 17. I am laughing as I am also one for buying in bulk to save time and money but if you hate it - no savings for sure! Continued success on your journey!
Best Kathy

Topic: How to Help Your Spouse Help You?
Hi everyone,
I am coming up for RNY on June 27 and trying to prepare everything.. Convinced my husband that this will be safe and a great step forward. He is very supportive and wants to help but does not really know what he can do...he is not one to read a lot of the books avaliable unless a short version. Does anyone know of a resource, web site, guide etc. that is more spouse/supporter oriented could help with the basics of post surgery recovery, food (or no food that is) etc.?
Thanks so much!

Welcome Best Friend! I am also quite new, just joined a few weeks ago. I think you are very courageous for joining and coming back to the fight so to speak. I can totally relate to the brain part - how to work on the thoughts that make us fill our stomachs when they may not need any additions? I am certainly a work in progress but also learned you can start anytime and make progres; start from where you are! I am going for RNY on June 27...now getting very nervous so trying not to read too many posts on dificulties as I am hoping to avoid them :)
I find this group very supporting / responsive and will be posting more and more and asking for help more and more as I continue on this journey. Much success to you andlook forward to seeing you on the site / group etc.
Warm regards,
Kathy

Good morning all!
I had a visit with my plastic surgeon on Monday morning. Everything is okay with the exception of the revision that I need to have done on my right breast. It's not noticable with a bra and shirt which is something anyway. Only me, my hubby and my doctor can tell that it's ****eyed. He said it is a relatively simple fix; one that can be done in his office. I'm not looking forward to having my breast cut open under a local anesthesia. I have some questions to ask that I didn't think of at the time, like, "How much is this going to cost me?" I don't feel that I should have to pay for this but I also understand that that is a very real possibility. Right now I'm thinking as long as it isn't obvious to the whole world and my husband doesn't complain I might just leave things as they are. After this last fiasco with surgery and all of the problems afterward, I'm not sure I want to go under the knife again. I have already decided not to have my thighs done (I heard it was brutal) and my neck has actually tighted up on it's own and I don't see any reason for having the face lift done. I never wanted to go that route; I'm 50 and that's the way it is. Anyway I have plenty of time to think about this; the surgeon won't do the revision until I gain back the additional 30 pounds that I lost.
The last time I weighed before yesterday was at the PCP's office and I was at 115 pounds. I started weighing myself again on my scale here at home which reads 117.6 which is .2 pounds more than yesterday. I guess I'll take every little victory. There is a part of me that doesn't want to gain the weight back. I guess I'm getting used to the way I look even though I still don't care for the way my bones are sticking out. Ribs, upper chest, hips and even my spine are protruding. My arms look like I could maybe use another brachioplasty; even my forearms are sagging slightly. I have been eating as much as I possibly can and going for carbs and fat. Not a healthy diet for sure, but I don't see how I'm going to be able to gain weight eating veggies and drinking protein shakes as was recommended by the surgeon. I can't even put on a pound eating junk food.
On the plus side, it's nice to be able to go into a store, any store, and pick up a medium shirt and a pair of size 6 jeans and know that they will both fit without having to try them on. I could probably fit into a 4 but I'm not going to try. The size 6 fits me in the waist but the legs are really baggy. Maybe I just haven't found the right pair of jeans or the right cut.
Well that's it for me. I hope you all have a great day!

Topic: RE: In HORRIBLE PAIN and unable to sleep
I'm a few days behind on posts but just wanted to say that I'm glad you are feeling better. I also get migraines that radiate from my neck due to injury and I know how bad they can get. I usually end up nauseated and even vomit the pain gets so bad sometimes.
