Dear Colleen,
I'm so sorry you are having such difficulty putting weight back on. I'm sure you are doing everything possible to gain so I won't be giving any advice. Just a note to say I'm thinking about you and I care. Mag

Topic: RE: How to Help Your Spouse Help You?
My husband has been very supportive of me in regards to the RNY I had on 5-3. He went to the pre-op consult, my two post-ops so far, and is planning on attending the classes and support groups I will attend. If you have a spouse who is supportive of you, your health, and reaching the goals, it's a definite plus!
Honestly, if your surgeon offers classes and support groups, try to have your husband go with you.

Topic: RE: Milk Allergies and Protein Drinks/Products
Thanks so much for the information - good news as I have a similar reaction to milk which is not all that fun:)
I will do some taste testing too but may forgo the hemp - had not even seen that as an option yet so thanks!

Topic: RE: Milk Allergies and Protein Drinks/Products
I am allergic to the protein in milk/dairy products and was worried about that as well. About a month prior to surgery, I started taste/reaction testing a large variety of protein drinks/shakes with the protein source from whey, hemp seeds, and soy. The whey products seem to have the largest variety available, and surprisingly, I haven't had any issues with them (my standard dairy reaction was nausea, vomiting, diarrhea). The hemp protein drinks/shakes I tried were NASTY!!!! Maybe it's just me, but even with flavors I tend to adore, I couldn't even gag down a second sip! The soy drinks/shakes weren't bad, but again, there was something 'off' in the taste to me.
Guess everyone is different, but unless the whey protein drinks/shakes caused serious issues, I would still recommend them to anyone, even those with an allergy as the surgery can alleviate or create symptoms.

Colleen, i agree with you about pictures as well as the naysayers. but it gets on my nerves! if you dont understand me, fine, but keep your mouth shut! i guess im just a big old meanie that doesnt want anyone to spoil what happiness i do have. i take pictures about every 2 weeks right now only because im obsessed and in my first 3 months so i can see a big difference. i was only trying to take them at each month anniversary but there was my daughters birthday party and then i got a new outfit that looked amazing... lol. so i take them whenever now, i dont hide from the camera. but def every month for the first year is my plan. i hope you are doing better, i dont read posts much to find out the results of things. i just have a lot going on and a lot of emotions. my shirnk isnt familar with weight loss surgery so its been a game. one day i go and im great, next day im not. i hate being bipolar and can understand why you have to be stable in order to get the surgery most of the time. i hope all is well. i just wanted to reply. if you are on facebook look me up Sara Sloan Macovitz

Fran,
As someone who suffers from mental health issues, I can't stress enough how important it is to keep your moods stable. It also doesn't help when you are dealing with physical pain (I also have herniated discs in my neck that cause me to have migraines. I see a pain management specialist.) Tylenol does not work for me either, but please be careful with the NSAIDS and your pouch. They can be be heck on your stomach regardless of GBS surgery.

Sara,
I have also noticed that my moods are bouncing around more since surgery. I'm glad you said that; I thought it was my imagination.
There will always be one or two "naysayers" in our lives. I just let them have their opinion and go about my way.
I also found that regardless of what the scale, mirrors, and clothes were telling me that the best way to see my results were pictures. I took new pictures about every 30 pounds. I need to take some now that I am post plastics, although I have lost so much weight that I am scary skinny. Never thought I'd have this problem!
