Topic: Thyroid nodules??
Looking for some information from the nurses I know we have here. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a lump on the front left side of my throat. Same day I noticed them I went to the doctor who immediately set me up for a throat scan.
The findings are that I have a huge nodule on my thyroid and about 4 more on the right side of my neck. I am also scheduled for a biopsy, but the earliest I can get in is 7/12/11. I have noticed these nodules/lumps are larger then they were 2 weeks ago. Should I be concerned about this?
Now I can vent. I have suspected for years that I had a thyroid problem. I had a thyroid blood test done in the past which showed all is normal. But from what I have read it appears that I should had different type blood tests done as well.
I have had all the classic symptoms of thyroid disease. The #1 symptom is not able to lose weight no matter what I did, constipation big time, feet swelled for no reason, insomnia, always cold, fatigue, sluggish, irregular periods etc. Now alot of these are also symptoms to just being overweight but I think this has been going on for a long time.
This is kinda freaking me out. Just when I thought things were looking up I get this. I hope I can get rid of these nodules w/o surgery.

Thank you for sharing your info. It's a big help to know what I may be facing and it reduces the fear factor making it easier to handle the rest that goes with this process.

Thanks, Mag! You are helping! I think I'm not looking for something ironclad, rather, a good feel for what to expect, a ball park perspective. Will you elaborate a little on the "hoops" the psychologist put you through? I don't mean to get personal or inappropriate, only to have some understanding of what I might be facing.

My surgeons office required a 6 month lifestyle class. Which I am really glad I had. I started in Oct. and had my surgery April 1st. Seemed like a long time but it flew by.
Good luck to you.
Good luck to you.

Hi Diana,
Every doctor and every insurance is different. Some times there is a mandatory 6 month weight loss diet. sometimes not. I've known some who took a year and one that was only 3 months. I don't know if doctors turn down patients. The psychologist at my doctor's office made me jump through all kinds of hoops before she would give her okay. There is no ironclad rule. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Mag

Topic: Step 2
Hi, all! Tomorrow is the first of June and I think of that as the first day of Summer. I completed my applicaiton for the surgeon and plan to walk it into his office tomorrow. That is my step 2 in the process; step 1 being the decision to get WLS. Now, if step 3 works out, I'm on my way. Step 3 is the review and acceptance by the doctor for the surgery.
This brings me to my questions:
1) Has anyone be declined by the surgeon and, if so, what were the reasons?
2) How long has it taken people from application to surgery? I've seen a few postings where it took people a year... is that average?
Thanks for being there and answering my questions.

Dear Tim,
I'm so proud of you for putting the ice cream bar back in the freezer. Wow. That took an effort on your part and you WON the battle. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! It must be hard to having other people eating foods that you are resisting. Keep hanging in there. I believe there is a place here on OH where there are recipes. Look under forums and see if there is a site for sharing recipes. Good luck with the grocery shopping. Mag
