Wow! I love your post.
I completely feel the same way!
It's so frustrating to be around the normies. I have kept my surgery very private, and part of it is the normies. (there's also the sabators).
I'm so glad I have my "wls peeps"!!

Hi Jenn,
This is the best place to be for support. I had my surgery in March and was on here every day asking questions and getting some really great advice. Can't begin to express how helpful it was and still is. I don't post as much now but I still get on and read. Good luck to you  and enjoy the journey.

Hi Jeannie,
Thank you for posting. It is excellent. I have friends that ask me why I couldn't do it on my own. I've been "outside of normal" just about my whole life. I remember telling my Dad that there was something wrong and different about me. He didn't believe me.  Again, thanks for writing this,   Mag

Hi Marcia,

Everyone has given you good solid advice. I don't have anything to add to that. Just wanted to say congrats on starting your post-op journey. The losers bench is never too full. Welcome to the flip side.   Mag

Hi Tim,

Kathy gave you good advice. I just wanted to say I think you are doing great. Asking questions about how to improve is just what you need to do. You can do this. I have faith in you.    Mag

Jenn, I was in the hospital for 2 nights after surgery.  I had the hardest time reaching my feet to put on the hospital booties, disliked asking for help, but we need to get up and walk often after surgery and I needed the help.  In hindsight, I wish I had brought along a pair of slip on shoes/slippers.  Keep this tucked in the back of your thoughts as you prepare your bag for the hospital.  I packed several things that I thought I needed, wellllll I used the lip balm from my bag, most of the things that "I just needed to have" stayed in the bag for the trip back home.  I found that I was tired very quickly after surgery, otherwise, felt fine.  Needed to use the narcotic pain med for just a few days, then switched to tylenol for most of the discomfort.  The worst pain was not even at a surgical site (I had the lap procedure), the pain was about waist level, way over on my left side, about 3 inches below the incision.  They have to move things about to get at the area of your stomach.  Felt like and invisible bruise.

Yes, it is possible to loose 100# in just a few short months.  Follow the plan set out by your surgeon, and the weight will be just falling off during the rapid weightloss time.   Get into your healthy new habits during this time of rapid weight loss.  This is not a "diet" but a lifestyle change.

My surgeon was fine with us using miralax, and it tastes, or doesn't taste really, fine.  I mixed it into my crystal light, never knew it was in there.  I was also told I could use milk of magnesia (mom),   ughhhhhhh, drinking chalk, no thanks, I did try a single dose.  I still have my bottle of mom, one dose missing, any takers, hehehehe.  Just kidding.

Any other questions, nothing too far 'out there', we are all human.  Just sharing my experience with others.  Hugs

Wow Jeannine, that was well written.  I am going to read this to my local support group, they all need to hear that others feel this way too.

You make me blush with reading your last line.  We leaders get so much out of the caring and sharing that happens here.  The group would be nothing if the day to day posts were missing.  I appreciate each and every member.  You are so "normal" among us.

Happy summer to you too.  Big league hugs headed your way.

Congratulations!!!!!
I am so excited for you!
After surgery, my doc had me do 4 days of clears following surgery, then moved to full liquids for a week, then 10 days of puree, then soft foods for 2 weeks then regular foods slowly (not there yet).
Anyway, I could only eat a few bites when I started full liquids (day 5 post-op). It took me 30 mins to eat a few ounces.
Just take it slow, like everyone said, and give time for the bites to settle. I felt like I was learning to eat again (in a way).
I'm so glad you updated us. Keep us updated!

Topic: Normal People
Hello and Happy Summer all.
It's been a while, I know.
I like to turn to this group, when I get tired of the "normal people".
I don't know if us "wls peeps" have a name for them but you all know who I am talking about.

Your friend who lost 30 pounds just by switching from dark meat to white meat. (Carrie)
Your friend who gave up regular soda and lost 25 pounds. (William)
Your dad who, every time he wants to loose weight just stops eating fast food. (My dad)
Your trainer who eats junk food (I know she's not going to admit it), and doesn't loose an ounce because she says all you need is strength training. (Kellie)
The nurse who is drinking Mona-vie and losing weight faster than I am with wls. (Amy)
I could probably think of a few more if it's wasn't so dang early in the a.m.

These are real people in my life. These "normal" people.
These are also the people that think that their lifestyle and diet changes are going to work for you.
Guess what?    They don't.
They have really great intentions, but are clueless when it comes to dealing with being obese.

I turn to this group because 95% of you know what I'm going through.
You've seen the breakdowns in support group meetings of the obese woman who just wants to be one of those normal people. (I was one of those women)
The man who is on so many meds, he's afraid of dying before he actually gets the surgery.
I've seen women in support group meetings that have lost a lot of weight but their body image of themselves hasn't changed. They still wear the plus size clothing, even though they don't have to.  They cannot comprehend the weight they have lost. They may never think of themselves as normal.

Guess what?  I'm not normal. I'm never going to be normal. I wasn't born normal.
I'm guessing if you've been obese your whole adult life, you're not normal either.

We are so much more than that!
We are so much stronger than normal!
We care about ourselves more than normal!

If there is or was something keeping you (genetics, eating habits, emotions, medical conditions) from being normal, you're not alone.
I've finally realized that it's ok to be just outside of "normal".

Thank you all for being here and your continued support.
You are all such a blessing in my life, especially the group leaders.

Thank you  - this really helps me - I have gotten more broth down and even had a whole shake (tho not all at once in 2oz. increments)  I even had a colace pill that the doctor told me I could take so I am getting less scared... but yes I will take it super super slow I plan to hopefully never have serious pain again lol
