Topic: RE: Hi Newby here
Hi Gibbie, welcome to the group. Congrats on finding out your surgry date. The days will fly on by. I had my surgery here in MN, but find that the surgeon's don't vary a whole lot. Seems that their diet plans have some room for variances.
Take your lip balm and a pillow along to the hospital. The pillow is to pad the seatbelt for the ride home, plus, I always sleep better with my own pillow. Any questions? I had my RNY Sept 2009.

Chris, you are sooooo worth the effort. Put down the unhealthy things, your mind is playing tricks on you. Have you followed any suggestions your surgeon and/or pcp offer for the balance issues?
There are things that can be done seated with bands and canned products from the kitchen cupboard for exercising that does not involve standing balance.
What do you do to keep your mind busy during the day? Crafts, reading, puzzles or a day in front of the tube? How about getting a ride from a friend, taxi, bus to go places that you can safely go. Being stuck inside 4 walls can make one go silly. Come to the chat session this evening, we can share more ideas. Hugs

Topic: RE: WLS Complications Scare Me, Advice...
Hi marjik, first of all, welcome to the group. Having anxiety and questioning your surgery is part of the normal preop stuff. Sounds like you have enough co-morbidities to warrent surgery for improving your health. Express these concerns with your surgical team, they will help you resolve things. Make a list of pro and con for having the surgery and read through your list many times.
You read lots about those with complications, others, like myself do not do enough preaching about the success and lack of complications. I had RNY surgery just over 2 years ago. Since surgery, dealt with a couple of severe bouts of constipation, a single episode of throwing up, and that episode was my own fault. I did not chew enough on my first attempt at raw carrot after surgery. I have lost over 100# and gained a new, active life. I would do the surgery again if needed. My tool still works, I can not eat large meals like I used to. I have the energy to do what needs to be done and less aches and pains of daily life.
I have been able to stay off insulin to control my type 2 diabetes since surgery, and I was on LARGE doses before wls. My CPAP pressure is half of what I was before surgery, my arthritis hurts much less. I am on less medication and more life!!!!
Any specific things I can address? Try to come to monday evening chat sessions for a chance to chat with others here too. Looking forward to many posts from you over the next few weeks. Hugs

Topic: Please Help
i have been on medical leave from work for a severe balance problem..ive been off for almost 5 months now. i have gained 7 pounds and feel miserable. i know its my fault because im eating out of boredom..i have found that i can eat chips, cookies, ice cream..basically all of the old stuff i could before weightloss. i cant really exercise bc of the balance issues nor can i drive..so i sit home alone. i do have my husband here but he works 2nd shift(1pm-1am). i mean i absolutely know this is my fault but i have trouble with the head hunger now..i beat myself up about and critize myself in the mirror..i just feel like givin up and maybe i wasnt worthy enough for this great gift i was given.
Topic: RE: Have your tastes changed after surgery?
Hi, Colleen,
Thanks for claifying your surgery. It helps to understand the whole picture. I'm sorry you had all the problems and I wouldn't wish them on anyone; very glad you are on the road to recovery!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on tastes, too. I commend you on your honesty. I find it interesting that you have problems with water but, I have heard others have, too. However, theirs was just after surgery rather than down the road.
And, thank you again for the encouragement re surgery. I confessed to my support person, my friend and roommate, that I was moving forward but, now that all the testing is done, I'm having some "cold feet" syndrome. I'll keep moving forward on it. I see the psych for the result on my eval on Tuesday and I'm a little apprehensive about that but, I'm sure that's normal.
I will keep in touch, you too, OK?
Diana
