Topic: Newbie. Trying to decide on which surgery (sleeve or RNY). What do I do with this sweet tooth? etc
Hi everyone! I've been "lurking" for a couple of days and think you have a wonderful and supportive group here.
I've met with my surgeon and it is my choice as to whether I have the gastric sleeve or the RNY procedure. I expect to be able to finalize the decision and get on the surgery schedule by next week, and would appreciate some personal insights from those that have "been there" regarding a couple of items.
I have pre-diabetes, with a history of diabetes in both sides of my gene pool. So, I know that RNY basically provides a "cure" for diabetes, However, I would love to hear from someone that may have had the sleeve surgery that can tell me what their experience has been regarding their diabetes.
I also have a sweet tooth and would love to hear from someone else that has that terrible monster in their mouth and hear about their experience following surgery.
All in all, I want to set myself up for success! I'm 64 years old, 5'7" and want to reach a goal weight of 150 (currently 280).

Topic: New need advise about surgery
I am in the process of being assessed for surgery. I have constant pain from Osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. I have two concerns. The big one is will losing weight relieve the pain! Have people found that they keep the weight off?
Topic: Almost there
I haven't been on for a few weeks as I was without internet for a bit and I have had so many other activities going on that posting here had to take a lower priority.
It's now down to the insurance decision now. All clearances from doctors have been received and I've been doing progressively better on my diet and drinking of water. I started water aerobics 3weeks ago and am loving it. The surgeon's office filed on Wednesday and we are waiting to hear what they come back with. It'll be one of three things... go, continue doc supervised for another two months (which means surgery in January), or, they will deny and I will have to start the appeals process. I doubt, though it is possible, that they will deny me. I am hoping for the a go ahead but will accept a two-month delay if that is the result.
Please pray that the choice will be a go because, if it is, my surgery will be on the 10/26. I appreciate all the help I can get!
Thanks for listening and your prayers!

Well Congrats first of all... and just know that most of us were scared before surgery but you will come through fine. You will learn as you go what you need to be eating and drinking and your new tummy will make sure to tell you. The medical issues I have heard at my support group get better. I know for me my blood pressure is now normal and I am 13 weeks post-op. You will feel so much better and I am wishing you an easy post-op and quick recovery :)

Congrats Bobbie, surgery is just around the corner. Let me welcome you to the group. You will find support here, just come share your journey and we will share ours. Take is easy this weekend, pack your lip balm, a pillow and keep hydrated. Looking forward to sharing the loser's bench with you. Always room for more on this side. Hugs
