Thanks for the encouragement. I think I am just getting nervous the closer I get. I really look forward to less pain.
They have not given me a date yet which doesn't help. i do struggle with not drinking with meals. I find some things like rice or mashed potatoes sometimes stick in my throat. With slowing down and chewing more it seems to be helping.

Topic: RE: Newbie. Trying to decide on which surgery (sleeve or RNY). What do I do with this sweet tooth? etc
Welcome to the group, posting is the best way to get the replies you seek.  Great to hear from you.  When I was ready for my surgery 2 years ago, my choices were band and RNY and with my surgeon, decided to go for the RNY.

I also have type 2 diabetes and knew that this was my best option for control of the disease.  Prior to surgery I was on large doses of long acting insulin twice a day with shots of short acting insulin with meals, plus pills.  I took my last insulin shot the day before surgery and am now controlled with pills only.  I also chose the RNY because I needed to know that dumping was a possibility if I gave in to my sweet tooth.  I have dumped, and that unsettled feeling prevents me from caving in to the sweet tooth most of the time.  There is no dumping with the sleeve.

This surgery has given me a small pouch that works for portion control.  Love the results.  The sleeve was not an option through my insurance company at the time.  I have friends that have the sleeve and love the results too.  I suggest to make a list of good and bad possibilities for each of the procedures and how the procedures would fit into your life plan.  Discuss the options with your surgeon and together make the best decision.  I can not suggest a surgery for you, but do the work, make the lists and listen to that small voice in you that tells you what the best option will be.  Best of luck with the decision process.

Travis, congrats on getting to the time of surgery.  I know that you will do well tomorrow.  Take this one moment at a time.  Your health problems will improve and you will stop "falling apart".  Take a few deep breaths, know that you are doing something important for your health.

I had surgery 2 years ago, and was able to stop using insulin for my type 2 diabetes.  My arthritis is improved, most days no pain and I get by with an occassional dose of tylenol.

I look forward to reading posts as you progress along this journey.  We are here to support your great decisions and help guide as we can from our own experiences.  Welcome to the loser's bench with your surgery!!

Topic: Life getting better here
The current struggle in my life is my hubby and his bloody urine.  I am thrilled to report that he had a TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) done yesterday.  They removed the offending tissue and his bleeding has resolved.  I am heading to the hospital later this morning to retrieve him.

It is great to have that stress behind us.  Sorry I missed chat and the reminder yesterday.  Family matters came first.  Have a grand week everyone.  Take care of yourself and spread a little sunshine to those around you.  Hugs

Welcome to the group pmurray.  I can answer for my own arthritis, my knees, feel amazing with over100# less of me to cart about.  I can only guess that the fibromyalgia should improve too.

As far as keeping the weight off, yes, that will happen.  But only if you retain your newly learned eating habits and do not allow yourself to fall back on old comfort habits of using food to feed issues.  This is a tool to help us with portion control.  I am two years out from wls at this time and love knowing that my tool works.  It is very different listening to your body cues for eating instead of just cleaning your plate.

There are some things that you can do during this assessment time to help start the weight loss.  I found it helpful to switch to a salad size plate,  my eyes saw the same amount of food, based on % of plate coverage and I did not always go back for a refill.  Try to separate drinking fluids from your meal.  We can "wash down" more food and pack it into our stomach with the fluid.  I confess, I had the hardest time separating drinking from my meals before wls.  Separating them is much easier now, not room for both food and fluid in the pouch at the same time.  Yayyyy wls.

Topic: New to this!
Hey everyone!  I've been looking around for a bit on different discussions and decided it would be good to put myself out there and maybe talk about things that I may be feeling or going through with others who feel the same or have been there.
I'm 32, have been approved for the sleeve by my insurance company.  Got cardiology clearance and now I am told I have to loose 15 pounds and then they will give me a surgery date!  So everyone around me is like "ooh that's it, piece of cake"!  YEAH RIGHT!  If it was so easy for me to loose 15 pounds i would just keep going and loose it all!  I am so frustrated and just want my date already!!!!!!

Topic: Hello! Newbie here
Hello everyone!

Very early in the process of being selected for surgery in Hamilton Ontario.  My family doctor was very supportive of my request and I am hoping all goes quickly.  I have attended an information session, filled out the paperwork and am waiting for an appointment.

I have thought about this for over a year and have researched alot of information. I have been lurking and reading here for about a week, after my best friend told me to look for a support group. I am so impressed with the sharing of information.  I am hoping this forum will become a great support group for me.

Anyone have any idea how long this process will take now that I am registered with the Bariatric Centre in Hamilton Ontario?  I do not have to wait for insurance companies - thank goodness.  Any ideas?

Thanks for listening!

Ann
