Welcome to the family Anita.  You will make it through this prep program and be on the surgery list before you know it.

Anything we can address?  Here to walk this adventure with you.

Congrats on your approaching surgery smile521f.  I too am a nurse, the same feelings that come to others happen to us too.  I was just eager to have the procedure done.

The waking up was uneventful.  I was eager to get rid of the foley catheter post op, it was gone within a couple of hours of recovery.  I was up and walking about in short stay surgery within 2 hours and headed to my room for the next couple of days.

The liquid diet was easier than I anticipated, long and boring, but very much possible.  These memories have remained in my mind during the two years that have slipped by since surgery.  I am loving my tool and still working it for my benefit.  All of my co-morbidities have improved, not completely resolved, but greatly improved.  Life is for living.  Let's lose together!!!

I replied to your above post too Becca.  These feelings are very normal.  I wish you all the best and lots of soothing self talk in the time as you wait for your new surgery date.  You will have more energy to be the best mother with less of your body.

Take multiple deep breaths this weekend.  Know that this is for the best, you want your surgeon to be thinking of your health, not his family member's health during your surgery.

Hi, Mag,

I'm glad to hear of your surgery... not that you have to have it, rather that I know it will serve you well.  I have friends who've had it.  In fact, one friend just had her 2nd replacement in 4 months and she is doing very well!

Based on what I've heard, it's important that you strengthen the muscles around your knee as much as possible prior to surgery.  In-patient rehab is the best way to go for recovery but, not necessary as long as you do what's required which is working the leg.  There is a "machine" that can help you at home that is put on your leg for 2-3 hours a few times a day.  Be sure to check with your doc on that and use it if it is available.  I've heard it is a tremendous help.

You'll be surprised at how much better it is for you!  I wish you the best!

Warm regards,
Diana

Topic: Having knee surgery
Hi all BB friends and newbies,

I am having a total knee replacement on Monday the 14th. I'm usually not nervous before surgery, but for some reason I am this time. Also having an endoscopy on Wednesday the 16th will I'm in the hospital. Feels a  lot like when i had my gall bladder problems. It's been removed and they don't grow back.lol.   My sis wants me to do my first 2 weeks as in-patient rehab because she is gone 9 to 10 hours a day. Obviously, I don't want to do that. My friends said they will set up a schedule so they can make sure I'm okay and help as needed.

I will be missing chats for a while. Take care of yourselves.  Mag

Hi Becca,  I am so sorry this has happened to you.  What a nasty thing to deal with. I agree. You need to find something positive about this experience. I know that will be difficult, but it will help you get passed this hill on your journey.  Mag
