Welcome to the group!!  Diana gave a wonderful reply, not sure that i have much new to add.  Just let us know if there is anything we can address.

I had RNY surgery 25 months ago and and so happy to have less of me to cart about.  The choice of best surgery is between you and your surgeon, your other health issues may dictate what is best.  Enjoy the ride, this is an adventure.

I went to my surgery seminar in feb, needed 6 monthly visits with the dietician and had surgery in sept.  Going to 6 nutrition visits before surgery is pretty standard.

Topic: RE: 3 weeks post-op and proteins are killing me
Travis, try sipping from a covered container, this stops the nose from sniffing the contents.  You can add dry milk powder to other things to increase the protein content.  The other soft proteins help.  Cottage cheese, fat free refried beans, greek yogurt (buy the plain, unsweetened, unflavored and sweeten/flavor it yourself with surgar free coffee syrup, crystal light powder, sugar free jello powder, extracts), turkey chili (pureed, tastes the same as out of the can!!!)

Topic: RE: Artificial Sweeteners making me hungry (pre op diet)??
Katy, I had been using artifical sweeteners for years due to diabetes.  I found that drinking more liquids helped, also switch to a salad size plate and use smaller utensils.  Stop eating when satisfied, not when full or the plate is clean.  It is one of the habits that we use after surgery.

I had a last minute cancellation also. I had all my pre-op tests done and had been on a semi liquid diet for two weeks when I received a phone call the day before my scheduled surgery postponing it because "they" had apparently just looked at my pre-op tests and wanted me to get past test results from my previous doctor to measure them against the new tests! If the tests were looked at when I had them done, all the waiting and fasting in vain could have been avoided. I feel your pain and anger!

Hi Shannon, welcome to the group.  Yes, the band can and does work for some.  It is work, slower weight loss than other procedures, but I know some with success.  Seems like you need to have a different procedure for your success.

I was thinking band when I started this process almost 3 years ago.  I spoke to my surgeon, we looked at my health issues, and I had quite a list of issues, and decided that RNYwas in my best interest.  So, 25 months ago, I had RNY.  I like my tool, it works for me, and I need the idea that I could dump as a means to keep me on the straight and narrow.  I do dump when I eat poorly, dumping is not fun and a great deterrant for me.  The sleeve was not an option during the time I was learning about wls, it works great too.

Choose the best tool for you, work that tool and you will get to where you want to be.  I do not try to persuade anyone to do what I did, just because it works.  Decide with your surgeon.  In the meantime, ease wisely, do your best to choose healthy foods.  Congratulations on your successful pregnancy.  Enjoy your child!

Topic: RE: Just checking in
Welcome back Mag, we all get tied up in things.  Life and work have been consuming my time.  I have learned to say "no" to overtime at least part of the time.  The time just flies by soooo quickly.  It is great to have some of you back among us to share with those just starting out on the adventure.  And what an adventure wls is.

I had  a long stall, more than 9 months.  But even with the stall, I have lost 20 pounds during this last 12 months.  I will take the pound here and half a pound there.  Wls is not a speed race, but a lifelong lifestyle.  And I am living my life!!!
