Topic: Hello from a new postop
Just a little info about myself. I had my original surgery of a realize band done on 1/5/09. Had a band repair in Aug '09. Ended up having a slipped band in Jan '10 that needed surgical repair. All of 2010 we tried to get restriction without success. Come the end of '10, had had enough and decided to try for a revision. After one year of attempt appeals with insurance, we gave up the fight and settled on a cash pay price for a revision to RNY. (Insurance agreed to pay for the removal of the band).
I had surgery Nov. 29 and had a very uneventful hospital stay. Came home on Friday. Friday and Saturday were also uneventful; however, Sunday and Monday have been frustrating. I have had a couple of times where things just aren't going down and others where they go down fine. Not sure this is to be expected at less than one week postop. Very frustrated since the first 5 days were very smooth. I go in on Wednesday for suture removal so will see how things go.
Totally different recovery from the band. Also have upper abdominal tightness at the end of the day, not really painful, but tightness, is this normal also. Any help is appreciated.
I am walking 2-3+ miles per day. Haven't taken anything stronger than Tylenol since Friday morning in the hospital. I am ready to get this weightloss back on the road. I had originally lost about 80 pounds with the band and ended up gaining about 40 pounds back.during my two years of issues.

Congrats on getting to the losing side of surgery Becca. So sorry that you had to go back again the next day. Remember to splint your incisions with your hand of a pillow. I found this helped a lot. The most painful incision for me was a spot loser than my left incision, closer to my waistline. This bothered for a couple of weeks.
I too enjoyed the lack of hunger. Sip, sip, sip. Keep us up to date. Hope this note finds you released and home safe and sound. Prayers for a rapid recovery. Let's lose together.

Topic: RE: The economy sucks!!! TYTYTY for the motivation though
Welcome back Fran. I find that avoiding the gym is easy, I feel so much better after getting there and having the endorphins flowing.
Working night shift keeps us on a different schedule from the rest of the world. I work straight night shift, now a 12 hour night shift. I find that I keep the night schedule on some of my days off too. I can be up at 0300 and sewing or reading. Bummer this time of the year, dark out when I go to work, and when I come home too. Sleep during the few hours of sunshine, and here in MN, the sunshine just doesn't have the same feeling as in the southern states. I take vit D supplements to make up for my lack of sunshine. According to lab results, my vit D level is within the normals. When I can, I spend time in my quilt studio, next to a window.
Your meals sound wonderful. Keep up the good work for yourself. Hugs

Topic: RE: 10 Days before my Surgery
Each of us tolerated different shakes. For some it is texture, smell, taste that bother us. For those affected my smell, try to use a sippy cup, covered coffee cup to limit the amount of odor you get when sipping. Make the shakes thinner or thicker for your taste needs. Crushed ice in the shake makes them thicker, also adding a teaspoon or two of the powder from sugar free pudding adds thickness. Try different brands, our tastes can change from before surgery to post op. Order samples of a variety of protein sources. Get samples from others at local support group.
Samples can be ordered from unjury, bariatric advantage, check with local gnc and natural food stores. Adding powdered milk granules to your drink adds extra protein. Sugarfree carnation instant breakfast has protein. Your surgeon's office will have a list of protein sources that you can try also. Some love unjury protein mixed with crystal light. Just try a variety of things.

Topic: RE: New
Welcome to the group Sarah. I agree OH is confusing at first. The groups and forums are set up to be able to leave messages and questions posted and reply to questions and posts from others. We have a live chat session each monday evening here on the bariatric buddy page. The chat sessions are a time to ask questions of those in attendance and offer positive support to others. I didn't sent out a reminder notice this morning, got busy with life here. Sorry for my ommittance.
The groups and forums are available for all that wish to participate. These supplement local wls support groups from your surgeon's office. The surgeon office groups usually meet once a month. The once a month support is often not enough for us. I try to come online several times a week to share with others. The support I receive is what I need to make it through my life. I get much more than I feel I give. Sharing it forward to others makes me feel good.
I had RNY just over 2 years ago. My health issues have improved, I am much more active and enjoying life. I try to attend a local wls support group each month. I share the leadership of this local group with another friend that has had wls. We fill in the gaps for each other.
Any specific OH site issues I can clear up for you?

Juan, congrats on getting a surgery date, or two. Having wls on your birthday could be the best gift you have ever received on your birthday. Talk of new birthdate, wls birth that is. Looking forward to reading more on your journey through wls and recovery. Either date is just around the bend. Which surgery did you decide on?

Congrats on your surgery Michelle. Wow, 28 lbs already, you are rocking your tool. Everyone loses at slightly different rates. This is not a race, but a lifestyle adjustment with the surgery as a tool to limit portions. You are doing amazing!!!

The iron topic has not been addressed for a long time. I am thrilled that you found something that you tolerate. I have been lucky, no additional iron supplement needed at this time. I will keep this in mind if I need something in the future.
How are other things going for you? Looking forward to hearing more of your story vanishing.
