Topic: RE: 1 year surgiversary
Happy anniversary of surgery Fran.  I agree this is NOT the easy way out, the tool is amazing at helping with portion control.  Do not compare your loss to others, we are all different.  I too consider myself a slow loser, had a nine month plateau at a year out.  I have lost 10# in the last 3-4 months.  Maintaining my surgical loss is a success.  Life is sooooo much better will less # to cart about.

Do get your labs checked.  I encourage everyone to take pictures and measurements along this journey.  The differences are amazing.  I did have a pic taken the morning before surgery, I haven't looked at the before and after pics yet.  Project for 'one of these days'.

I find myself getting busy with everyday life.  Miss being online daily to check the BB posts.  I appreciate all that come and share when I am busy.  Thank you!!!

Topic: RE: 3rd UPDATE!!!
Congrats Juan, by now you are below 300#.  I too feel the joy of no longer needing the insulin shots.  Keep working on getting your needed fluids in, you are still fresh from surgery, making the needed changes.

You are doing wonderful, keep following the advice of your nutritionist.  Keep us updated, rooting for your success!!!!!

Topic: RE: Gassy Question
Lucy, yes gas is an issue after wls.  I am a fan of gas X, simethicone, beano, whatever works for your excess gas.  I work in a hospital and tell my co-workers to just let me wander when I head to an empty room, I will return shortly.  I feel sorry for those around me when the gas rumbles.  I would not want to be stuck in a meeting when this happens.  Luckily, it is not a daily occurance.

Now for the fun news, sometimes, as in my case, this excess gas has a nasty, out of the ordinary stench.  This can affect us in our public lives.  I read an ad for Devrom in Obesity Help, decided, what the heck, and ordered a bottle.  This is over the counter and what is prescribed for those who have foul odor in conjunction with ostomy products.  The devrom started making working in just a few days with a reduction in foul gas odor.  I was without while waiting for my next order to arrive, the nasty gas resumed within a few days.  I now make sure that I always have a couple of bottles to spare at hand.  The dose needed will vary from person to person, experiment with the recommendations on the label.  I found 2 tablets twice a day help the best.  This is also available in a chewable tabled for those that need chewables.  I order right from the company, just do a web search for Devrom.  You may want to join up with a local friend and bulk order for savings on shipping.

Topic: RE: New New New- I'm new and have questions.
That is a wonderful list of questions Smiles.  I would do the wls again in a heartbeat, yes, yes, yes!!!!!  The list of things I can now do is so long that it would take paragraphs.  Yayyyy wls, wish I had had this done a couple of decades ago, but I was not in the proper frame of mind at that time.

This is a lifestyle change, does not feel like a diet at all, I wish my hubby would eat the things I eat, we could be healthy together.  I fix healthy meals, he supplements these with the carbs that he craves.  I can leave them alone most of the time.  Amazingly, 3 french fries is all that I want when we do fast food together.  I eat most of my meals home cooked, I know what is in the food and can serve the small portions that I need.

I was up and walking shortly after surgery, had my hubby walk outdoors with me the first couple of weeks after surgery.  Started exercising with more intensity after 6 weeks.  Work insisted that I take the whole 6 weeks off because I need to lift at a moments notice at work.  I am glad that I took that amount of time off.

No regrets, loving the results.  Keep reading posts, ask all questions, find a local wls support group and let us know here what we can do to help.

Congrats on the cancer free diagnosis Sam.  Your body will be adjusting to the surgery for a bit yet and any adjustments in your thyroid replacement medications.  Do not go to your trigger foods.  Check with your nutritionist for tweeking your food plan.

You have done amazing following wls.  Yayyyyy Sam.  Great to see posts from other bariatric buddy members.

Good to hear from you Lourdes!  I wish I had "the answer"  I agree with Fran, bring food log to nutritionist.  I suffer from constipation and would love to be normal, so to say.

Each and everyone of us reacts differently to the wls.  I applaud your success.  Still working the program myself.  Before wls, I couldn't maintain significant weight loss.  The tool is the best, I can't eat like I used to, yayyyyyy wls.

Topic: RE: Protein Shakes!!!
Have you tried Unjury protein shakes? They have a chicken soup flavor that has worked well for me. It doesn't taste the greatest but I needed something that didn't taste sweet and w/ a scoop of protein in 12 oz of water I felt pretty good

I am no expert and I am still early out.. but I was just wondering if you have spoken to a nutritionist about this.  Maybe she can take a look at your food log and see if there is any changes to try. Maybe u need more fiber to bulk things u.. i dunno.  Also do u take a probiotic?  We use that at work with our pts to help regulate their diets.   I have been so much constipation and gas since surgery.  I have started taking a probiotic for about 2 months..  its helping with the gas and helping me be regulated.

I hope the find something that works for you.  It would suck to have to live with this.  Keep me posted.  I will do the same about my iron levels.. LOL
