Thanks for the article. Aren't we fortunate? I mean, as a Type 2 Diabetic, I'm not yet cured. I just had my surgery last December of 2013 and still have a long way to go but this is something positive that we can look forward too!

Hello, my name is Shannon. I live in Mississippi and had RNY surgery on 4/4/11. I went from 330 to 165, 25 lbs short of my goal. Since then i have put back on 30 lbs , but lost 11 of it already. I would love to get to my goal, and I am very determined to do so.

I am looking for a buddy to help keep me honest while I get back on track. If interested please reply.

Hey there, I could have written this too. After surgery I had a second baby and gained back some too. I also started protein shakes again and am working on getting all the vitamins in. Sorry I can't really offer much advice, only that I refuse to pay for pricey things anymore. Walking is free, and getting weights and a workout dvd is relatively cheap and we should do it more. Hope you're doing better.

IT has been a whirlwind!  I only found out a few days ago of my date and my mind is racing...its affecting my sleep and I have had a headache but overall I am excited to change my life and get back to being ME.

I have my nutritional class tomorrow which is only 2 weeks out from surgery date but in a way I am glad so I dont have so much time to stress before having to go into ACTION mode.  Although reading about many other's pre-surgery actions, I am feeling very unprepared.

So many preparations to be made now...not just for me but my family.  I am a little overwhelmed.  I have two kids 8 and 12 and I havent told them yet.  Trying to decide how and what...any suggestions?  I really want to use my surgery as an opportunity for all of us to be and act healthy.  My kids are of perfect weight but so was I until college.  I see their eating habits, feel the guilt of not having been a great role model and want to use this time for all of us to make the changes we should.

I havent decided if or who I will tell.  SO far only my husband (obviously), my mom, physical therapist, hair dresser (HA) and one close friend.  I might to bring some more friends into the loop in case I need help with the kids, etc. but other than that, I really dont find myself wanting to tell people.  I would love to hear how you have dealt with this!

Looking forward to using these groups as I spend the next 2 weeks focused on prep and then of course, post surgery.  Any need-to-know tips or suggestions are appreciated...I am afraid I am not asking the right questions.

I am so sorry! I have been awol for a very long time from my group here.

I wish you all the best with your surgery. It will be a wonderful gift to you and your loved ones, as long as you treat it with the respect it deserves. It can be way too easy to get off track later (2 to 3 years after the surgery), and the weight will creep back up if you do not stay compliant.

My best suggestion to you is to make sure, that no matter what it takes, you are willing to follow the guidelines. The first couple of years are simply magical! But then you are back to reality, and to benefit from the magic of the first couple of years, you must study, learn, and commit yourself to what you have to do for the long haul.

Wishing you all the best!

I forgot to mention I did have another major surgery that has helped make things hard on me. Had to get a hysterectomy. And seems since that surgery I have had the problem with gaining weight back.

WOW ... Its been forever since I have stopped in here and said hello. I am struggling big time here (to be honest gained some weight back) not all of my weight, but enough to have me very upset. Things here have been crazy. I have been a foster mom for 3 years, and it is finally paid off. I am adopting 2 beautiful babies. 1 is 2 years old, I've had him since he was 18 months old, the other is 5 months old, I've had him since he was 10 days old.

I find I still eat small meals, but i eat A LOT and eat the wring things. I struggle so bad. I wish I lived close to some of you who I know would kick my butt and help me get back on track. Now that the boys are in daycare I find a few extra minutes to myself. I think I am going to go down to the local YMCA and start working out. Cant really afford a trainer but I could at least start using the machines. any ideas? PLEASE help. I have gone as far as I thought about asking my doctor about the stomach sleeve. YES i want my stomach smaller. I just want to be healthy for me and the boys. Its hard. I know what I'm doing wrong, I just have to get my butt in gear and stop it and make better choices. Which I am trying to do, but not successful.

Well, I didn't stop here to whine to you all, I stopped by for some advise. HELP PLEASE ... I recently started my protein shakes again (YUCK) but trying to get them in. any ideas how to make it work? Starbucks makes the best protein shakes but i cant afford to stop there everyday. (think I will go Google how they make theirs)

any hints, tips, helpful advise will be appreciated, PLEASE ... thank you all

hope everyone is doing well. Take care

Melissa

I am a single support group meeting away from getting my surgery date. Hopefully that will be before the end of the year. I was hoping to join a meeting online to qualify for that, but once I started looking around here I realized what a great resource this could be. I have seen several people go through bariatric surgery in the past but I have lost touch with most of them. The in person meeting I attended felt very rushed and a bit like an hour long commercial for surgery services provided by the hospital.

I am 39 years old, married to a wonderful woman and have an amazing 3 year old daughter. I want to have this surgery as much for them as myself.

Any help and advice would be had, thanks in advance.

Jeff
