It may be the brand or type of vitamin you are taking. If it is coated, you cannot break it down. I take the Building block brand of bariatric vitamins (chewable form) and they taste great and set well too. If you want to check em out they are at www.bbvitamins.com they will even send you a sample if you email them and ask. They offer chewable, liquid, and quick disolve capsules. The chewables are like my candy..lol.

I was told this is called Dysmorphia. We still "see" ourselves as our former bigger selves, no matter how small we get. with time and effort and self honesty and acceptance, this will pass at least for the most part. What I usually recommend is for people who suffer with this to take a before pic and have it enlarged a bit. Hang it on your bathroom or bedroom mirror. Then when you look at yourself and feel the same as you were you can look at the old picture and the newer you and see the difference right before you.

Welcome to our group! Congrats on your wls!

Topic: RE: Still Hungry
Take a deep breath and relax a bit. I TOO had true hunger post-op, and i had RNY! BUT within a month or so, I finally stopped feeling hunger pangs, and they didn't return until just before I hit a year out. It isn't the most common reaction, but not totally uncommon either, so relax a bit. I will pass along some guidance for you.

Do not drink 30 min before after or during a meal or snack. I'm sure you have heard this but it is important. For the first 3 months you should be eating 1 to 2 oz at a sitting, 2 oz when you are closer to 3 months out (thats 1/4 cup). by 6 months up to 4 oz (1/2 cup) by 9 ,months up to 6 oz (3/4 cup) and by a year out up to 8 oz per meal (1 cup). This is where it should remain for life! occassionally a tad more is ok especially if the meal is like soup or something liquidy. You are best off to follow these intake limits and have 4 to 6 smaller meals daily, than to eat larger amounts less often. Once you are able to eat more solids, you will also not be as hungry. Chew slowly and savor each bite. This gives the body time to recognize it is satisfied, without over eating.

No nausea and vomitting is awesome! I had none either, excpet that caused by my pain meds. So I stopped taking them.

It would be my guess that once you have healed up, and are free to eat solids you can eat your hot peppers. I have even heard that they speed the metabolism and fat burning process. Your tolorance may be different after surgery, so play it by ear.
Best of luck!

Kathy,
It is important to learn to get the self discipline into place NOW. You will need lots of it post-op. Without it you will be at a high risk of regain later. So maybe you can do what i did... I had a heart to heart talk with myself, and told mysel;f, that if I cannot be dedicated enough to do what I must pre-op, then i wouldn't let myself have the surgery. No point in risking my life for something that would backfire if I couldn't follow the rules. So given that, I followed them to a T both before and after. Once i hit about a year out, I started straying a little here and there, and wish i had not, as once you begin to do so, it is harder to get back to the rules.

It is hard to be strong at times, but remind yourself why you are doing this wls, and how you got to where you needed it, and what contributed to it, and stay focused on the rules. Best of luck to you!

Topic: RE: Challenge...NOT for everyone!
Today was my Granddaughters 5th birthday party. I did eat a very small sliver of marble cake, with NO frosting on it. When I say very small, that is the truth. It was about 1/2 inch thik and about 2 inches long. 4 bites at most, small bites. Aside from that I ate from the veggie platter that my sons wife was kind enough to provide, knowing the other food choices would not be consumed by me. I wasn't going to even taste the cake, but did while making a conscious choice to avoid all carbs except those from fruits or veggies for the rest of the day. I hadn't had any carbs as of then either.

I am continuing to maintain the 4 lbs lost the first few days of our challenge, but have not put enough effort out since to lose more, but enough to maintain the loss I did have. SOOOOOOOO tomorrow is Monday. A NEW day a NEW week a NEW opportunity to do better. Here's the plan:

Back to Phase one of the atkins (modified to reduce fat intake from what they allow). Up my water like I did the first few days of this challenge and got away from again after that, reduce coffee intake. Get in either a protein shake, atkins shake, or carnation instant breakfast for breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up each and every morning, or eat food sources of protein like yogurt or cottage cheese or egg. I usually do not care to eat in the mornings, so the shakes will likely be what I mostly use for the start of my day. I really do need to get more active. I get in some activity, but not what I need to or should get in. I feel so tired all of the time anymore, I cannot stand it! I have also reduced my smoking and am going to try yet again in the morning to stay away from it.wish me luck.

I will also be scheduling my 3 year wls follow-up appt Monday. July 21st will be 3 years, but I also suspect I have an ulcer, so need to get that checked out asap.
