Topic: Hello ALL !!! 100 lbs gone
Hello everyone ..

I stepped on my scale this morning and it read 165 .. when I had my surgery on 10/6/10 I weighed 265 . WHOO HOOO ....

I haven't been on in a while .. lots of stuff has happened ..
I recently moved into my Mom's house at her request.  She said since she is almost 70 years old now she can't handle her house alone any more .. So my son Michael and I moved into her house last month.  I was surprised at how quickly my trailer sold .. But I have discovered in the last few years that God will make things move in the direction he wants them to very quickly if you don't fight his influence.  Things seem to be going quite well with the three of us in this house and i have lost 3 pounds since moving in here.
About 4 months ago my Psychiatrist cut my meds in half .. so I have gone from taking 300 mg of Effexor XR to 150mg.  I have an appt with him in about two weeks so I will see what he says then about my medications.  Wondering if he will take me off them entirely eventually because I have worked through so many issues with my therapist that it may not be needed much longer.
The big issue with me was my  weight .. I was talking with my mom last night and she says that she has never seen me this happy.  I feel good, almost able to keep up with my 6 year old son.   but the only thing that can really keep up with a 6 year old is another 6 year old .  lol .. the other day I was walking to the car and my son was trailing behind and he was saying wait for me mom.. It wasn't that long ago that i had to tell my son to wait up for mama..

Hope everyone is doing well
Be Blessed

Jenn

My fantasy is to 'unzip' the fat suit and step out.  *deep breath sigh* but guess what.  the fat suit didn't go on in one layer and is won't come off in one layer.  Just keep going.  Most important is to keep focus and don't give up.  Our bodies get confused - 'hey - what the h*ll is going on here' and is trying to adjust. Getting your protein first is the most important thing you can do for your program.  Your doing great, keep going! Take a breath and just keep going, your doing everything right!

The others have given you some excellent advice.  I would only add that if food is indeed a 'time together' for the two of you that part doesn't need to change.  The change will be in the actual food.  There are some fabulous receipies out there and you can try them together.  Everyone can benefit from a wls eating plan, it's very healthy.  He will have a larger volumn than you and additional items on his plate but he loves you and you'll work it out.  You do need to talk about it though.  WIth everything else in marriage you gotta talk about it.  He doesn't want your relationship to change either.  Plan a nice healthy meal, candles too, and get it all out there.  Good luck to you!

A couple extra things to think about.  If you bring your cell phone bring your charger too seeing that your going to be there a few extra days.
Do you do any crafts that you could bring?  A book for sure even if you don't read often.  Or bring a load of those magazines that you haven't gotten to. When your done you can leave them in the waiting room for others.
Hand lotion, face moisturizer, all of your current meds, your own lip moisturizer, a signed health care directive, sun glasses.  I got a headache from the drugs and used my sun glasses until it finally went away.
Good luck to you and don't worry you'll be fine!

Welcome to the group Julie.  I had RNY too.  I packed things that I thought I would need.  Ended up only taking the chapstick out of my bag.  I wished I packed slip on slippers, didn't want to call for help to put on the hospital provided slippers.  I did ask for help, I wanted to be up and mobile asap after surgery.

I brought my cpap machine, they instructed me to bring it.  Check with your hospital if they want you to bring your meds, most hospitals do not want yours at the hospital.  Consult with your surgeon on any meds that you need to change from long acting or extended release to short acting, get these meds changed over to short acting ones before surgery.

I had a friend that had a feeding tube in place for a few months, you will do well.

Also bring a pillow, the hospital ones are not always as good as your own, and you can use it to pad the seat belt for the trip home.  Use a colorful case to identify it as yours.

Yes, I would do the surgery all over again.  Live is sooooo much better with less of me to carry about.  I am still working the program and doing my best to get in activity.  The pouch works, thank goodness for wls for those of us that need the tool.  I needed the tool, and it works, you just need to get into the new and improved lifestyle that brings health.  This is a lifestyle change, not a diet.  Yayyyyy wls!!!!

Jennifer, love the topic intro.  We all need those that help us survive.  I invited my hubby to attend wls support group meetings with me.  There are a few other spouses and family members that come to support group, he learns something each time.  He still has his favorite foods, that are not wls friendly and is picky about what he will try.  New foods terrify him, I offer him a bite of somethings that I make that is wls friendly, often leaving leftovers available in the fridge.  He has "his cupboard" of off limit foods for me anyway.  When he wants to replentish his pasta and snacks, he goes with me to the store, picks out what he wants, and immediately puts the foods away when we get home.  I am finding that every once in a while, he really does like something that is good for him.  He does best with new foods if he is not in the kitchen when I cook.  Ignorance is bliss at times.

I share infomation with my hubby and he does his best, he is learning.  I brought him along to some of my nutrition appointments before surgery.  It took him over a year to understand what a carbohydrate is, still confuses him at times.

Know that we all change, share the changes with those that support you.  Share that you want positive support from those close to you.  Offer options when your hubby wants to bring you something. Mine now brings me snapdragons when he wants to treat me.  (I love to play with the flowers and they do not add to my waist.)  Take walks with your hubby, activities that you can share deepen the bond.  Share with us, we are here to support you along this adventure, let the adventure continue.  Hugs
