Thanks Kathy and everyone :)

the 13th is surgery and it's so close.  I am scared because you can read all you want about how others have gone through but you don't really know how it will be on the other side till you have done it yourself.  And finding out (because of my liquid diet) and my therapist that I am a food addict, never thought I was before.  I was a bit scared that I would end up on liquids or soft foods for the rest of my life - I know irrational fears (which is why I see a therapist) but thank you so much for your information it really helps.

Tim, forgot or purposely did not write the journal. You are the only one you are harming by not following the guidlines. Time to be accountable for yourself.

Hi Marcia, welcome to the group.  Let me give you an early welcome to the loser's bency.

Yes
you will be able to eat real foods after surgery.  Just follow the quidelines set by your surgeon for advancing your diet.  Know that you will need to comsume protein first, fruits and veggies next and carbohydrates only is you still have room in your pouch.

Topic: RE: Hello another newbie here
Welcome to the group Tony.  Great to have more men joining us.

I too deal with type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea with a cpap machine and arthritis.  I had RNY in sept of 2009.  Since surgery, I have gotten off insulin, reduced my cpap presure by half of what it was.  My arthritis is much better and I am active.

DS was not an option for me at the time I had surgery, I have friends that have had DS and love it.  I am happy with my RNY, down over 100# from my highest weight.  Learn what you can, ask many, many questions and discuss your options with your surgeon.  Plan what is best for you with your team.

Welcome to the group Jenn.  Do your best during this time before surgery.

I had success from using salad sized plates instead of dinner plates.

Try to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day.  Start the healthy habits that will be your life as soon as you can.  Get in activity daily, even walking about the block or halls.  Try to not drink fluids during your meals.  I had the hardest time with not drinking while eating before surgery, this is much easier after surgery.  Make one or two small changes at a time, give the changes time to be a habit, and then add another healthy change.

Ask any and all questions of us, your dietician and surgical team.  Learn, ask, and take this one step at a time.  It is a great adventure, becoming healthy is up to each and every one of us.  Hugs

Topic: Newbie on board
Hi everyone.  my name is Jenn and I am new to the board and the WLS world.  i made a decision to start the process a few months ago after debating for a long time.  i am only 34 years old and was worried that i couldn't change my lifestyle...but after going some nutrition classes i think that i can.  i just had my second of six classes today and am really motivated.  this class was really good today and we got to taste and see some foods that we will need to adopt.  i

i am struggling with what i should eat while i'm in the process of doing the classes and seeing the surgeon.  i gained 3 pounds over the past month (between classes) and that is very disappointing.  how do i change my eating habits while still feeling satisfied and also lose weight in the process?

i just purchased the weight loss surgery for dummies book today from amazon and i am hoping that will be able to help stop some of my concerns and fears.  i also purchased the weight loss for dummies cookbook for after the surgery and maybe i can use it during the waiting process as well.  i need to figure out how to eat during this 6 month process before the surgery.  any suggestions?

thanks for listening and can't wait to make new friends

How about you?  I have had a busy day so far.  Worked 5.5 hours that I didn't plan on during the night, napped briefly and got a call from the landscape company.  The dirt we ordered was being delivered.  Worked with my husband and father to move 2 yards of black dirt to alongside the garage.  We then transplanted and divided the hasta plants into the new garden area.  I did my share of exercise with the shovelling, digging and bending to plant.  Lots of sweat and hydration.  Taking is easy this afternoon then chat tonight.  Speaking of chat, here's the reminder.

Bariatric buddy chat session is this evening. Come one, come all. Time for sharing and caring for each other.   We start at 7pm eastern, 6pm central, 5pm mountain and 4pm pacific. Entrance shortcut is http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/bariatricbuddy/chat/ .   You may need to update your JAVA if having trouble getting into the chat room. Keep trying. Chat usually lasts about an hour. Any questions, send a PM to KathyB4me, here at OH.     I plan to be there. See (or rather chat with) you this evening. Hugs, Kathy
