Tim, check with the trainer available at the Y to help with other cardio machines and consider adding strength training, water walking if there is a pool at the Y.  We need to change up our exercises every few weeks to keep our bodies adapting.  Try to increase the incline, vary the speed.  I am impressed with your staying with the exercise.  Keep it up.

Welcome to bariatric buddy group Jenn.  I had RNY almost 2 years ago, and will try to answer any and all questions you may have.  Seems like just yesterday that I was in your shoes.

The emotional rollercoaster waiting for surgery is normal.  You are extremely fortunate to get approved and scheduled so quickly.  Congrats.

Your surgeon will or has given you paperwork that talks about his/her expectations for for nutrition after surgery.  There are some articles here at bariatric buddy, check the blog area in the list above the leader pics to the right.  Head back several articles and there is one on hormanal changes that happen as you lose weight.  There is a book, "Weight Loss Surgery - for dummies", that covers a lot of very basic issues.  Check with your local library.  I enjoyed an uneventful recovery peroid, a brief episode of constipation, and love that I am over 100# smaller than I was.  Life is so much better will the results of wls.

Any specific questions?  Hugs

Welcome sportsmom. I think you have come to the right place. I found it over a year ago and the wonderful people here helped me along in my very hard trip. I have only one comment on the things you said. Why the band? It's the worst possible choice you can make for WLS. I suggest you read about your alternatives on this site, ask questions and make an informed choice.

Tim,
We all understand that the pre-op period is hard and it's even harder when you are young, it's summer, and you are dying for some ice cream. That being said, you have already shown that you have the good sense and the willpower to succeed in this. Unfortunately it's not over (nor will it ever really be). This is the time to learn good eating habits and to learn control. What did you gain from a day's binge? A few moments of pleasure maybe but look at the things you have put at risk. Undoing all the good work you have already done, your hopes for a better body and your surgery. Your whole future is ahead of you and this period in your life is critical. You have a golden opportunity, one that many of us wished we had at your age. Don't let it go to waste.

I am new to the site and to this group.  I recently found out my surgery date and am really looking for a good support system.  I am not sure what to expect each week after the surgery...I think someone should write a book called, "what to expect when you're expecting to lose" not the best title but you get my drift.

My surgery date is August 29 and I am feeling many emotions like most newbies.  I didn't have to wait long actually to get a date for surgery.  I went in for my consult in June and was approved in July.

I am really looking for positive, helpful and honest support.  I really feel like this site and group will benefit me greatly.

Thank you everyone for the support. I am still trying to figure out the site so if I offend someone please forgive me. I am going to have to do two weeks of slimfast or glucerna shakes or bars. Anyone have a favorite shake or bar? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
