Hey everyone! Just wanted to stop in and see what this group is about. I had the sleeve procedure done Aug 11, 2011. I have lost 27 pounds so far. I have had a few glitches along the way regarding staying hydrated enough, but I think I have that figured out.
I am encountering my first cold this week. Went to my family practice doctor and am now on antibiotics. Do anyone else have problems with weak immune systems? Seems I get one thing under control and another thing crops up for me.
I am feeling pretty ok otherwise.
I don't have a huge support system where I am at the moment. I am back to classes at UNI, and can't wait to graduate in May. I have an 8 year old daughter who is busy as all get out. My mom and I are very close which is great too.
I hope you all have a super Friday.

Try adding in a protein shake in the AM if you do not ALREADY DO THAT. i HAD TO DO THAT TO GET MY WEIGHT LOSS GOING BETTER EARLY ON. Ooops sorry bout the cap locks.
Try very hard to stay away from carbs that do not come from fruit and veggies.
You are welcome. Best of luck.

Thank you for your reply.
I had gastric bypass surgery. I am writting down my foods,I am getting in my water and protein. I guess I was hoping to lose faster than what I am. I just started exericing, hopefully that will kick my weight loss in the butt.

google seated exercise, or something to that effect. You will find resources from there.
You are welcome. Hang in there. Best of luck.

There are a few things to consider when feeling like weight loss is going too slow. Key tho, is to remember everyone loses differently. I lost 25 my first month, then it slowed from there. Did you have gastric bypass? Sleeve? band? type of procedure can affect rate of loss, band being the slowest usually.
If your weight loss is not what you feel it should be, there are a few things to ask yourself.
1. Are you eating too much or too little?
2. Are you getting your water in?
3. Are you getting plenty of protein in? May need a supplement. Too little protein will slow weight loss significantly.
4. Are you getting in at least 30 minutes of exercise or other moderate intensity activities each day?
Plateaus are normal even after WLS. Sometimes too, we need to shake things up to get past a plateau or stall in weight loss. Change activity, increase water and protein, etc.
We all lose differently, and the more excess weight we have usually the faster we will lose early on. so if you weighted 250 lbs, you will lose much slower than someone at 300,350 or 400. WLS does take work and effort to work and to work properly. Review the directions / instructions given to you by your surgeon and make sure you are on track.
Best of luck to you!

Please don't beat yourself up..that will just lead to a vicious cycle. First, I applaud you for reaching out and sharing your struggle..that was a HUGE step. Now that you've owned up to the problem try to do things at home that will keep you busy. Invite friends over for a nice afternoon to chat and catch up on things. Continue to chat on this site as often as you need. Speak to your doctor about your condition..remember..it's not how many times you fall...what matters is that you keep getting up...tomorrow's another day. I hope my input helps in any way
Topic: What Didn't I Try
Hello everyone. Sorry it's taken awhile to get back . Now I would like to share the many crazy attempts that I made to try and loose weight. There were diet pills ( Xenadrine almost ruined my digestive tract ), diet plans ( 1,000 calories/day....not a good idea), even skipping meals(there's a reason why experts say that breakfast is the most important part of the day). Although they seemed like good ideas at the time, all each did was mess up my metabolism and resulted in either putting the few pounds I lost back on or gaining even MORE weight. It was obvious that I needed to re-educate myself on how to properly eat. Thanks to my awareness as a compulsive and my nutritionist my journey became a bit easier to take. My next entry will include what led to my decision to have weight loss surgey....thanks for taking the time to read this
