Hang in there.
you will make it thru the red tape and appointments.
it is frustating when you have to wait for the next appointment and it delays your time.
but in the end you will be on the losers bench

Topic: very frustrated...
well i finally had my pulmonary appointment and was told that i may have sleep apnea.  so i have to go for a sleep study in 2 weeks and then if i do have sleep apnea i need to be treated for 6-8 weeks before i can even consider the surgery.  i'm already in month 5 of my nutritional classes.  i also had my psych eval this week and due to the amount of meds i'm on for my psych issues the doctor said he would approve the surgery for me but with exceptions.  i was so shocked that my mental illness is going to play a role in this whole thing that i forgot to ask what the exceptions were.  well i see my surgeon on october 17 and hopefully the psych eval will be in his hands by then and i can learn what the exceptions are.  i'm sure i can work with them but i'm just so frustrated that it takes so long to get into the specialist's then they decide your fate.  the pulmonoligist was like i don't know why you waited so long to come in we usually see people during month 1 or 2.  it wasn't my fault i had to wait to long they are the ones that scheduled the appointment and that was their first opening according to the secretary.  i'm almost to the point of backing out of doing anything else as i'm so frustrated.  hopefully the surgeon's appointment will go better and i will be in a better frame of mind.  thanks for letting me vent!

Topic: RE: Welcome!
Hello Everyone,
My name is Deb.  I am 51 yrs old and I have been overweight most of my life.  I can exercise and eat right, I will loose some weight.  Howeever the minute I stop it just piles back on.  I have tried many, many diets and other stuff to loose weight.  The only thing that lost weight was my pocketbook.  I was debating 10 yrs ago to have the bypass surgery, however it just did not seem to be the time for me to consider.  So, I tried on my own.  I am happy to report in 10 yrs I have no gained 1 single pound.  The sad news is I stayed the same.

I moved from IL to AR about 1.5 yrs ago.  There was a gastric bypass seminar.  My husband and I went to the seminar and questions in hand for the round table at the end.  We were very impressed by Dr. Mark Gibbs and his surgery record.  Dr. Gibbs has had no staple leaks and he was also very brutally honest during his seminar, which I appreciated.

My information has been faxed over to the insurance company and I should know by October 13, 2011 if I was approved.  I submitted 10yrs of weight history, had my psych evaluation, dietician appt, and next week I will have my sleep study.  Now, I shall have to wait to see if the insurance company will let me continue with the surgery to continue to become healthy and reach my goals of weight loss and lifestyle change for the better.

My goal after the surgery is to be the best I can be and be at my most healthy as I can be.  I yr after my surgery I would like to continue our yearly hiking vacations, which I miss dearly, because of my weight, I was not able to walk or hike very far at all.    I say 1 yr, because I do not know what I will be able to do.  I would like to do some hiking sooner than 1 yr after the surgery.

I would like to find other WLS patients in Little Rock, AR, were I live, so we can make plans to get together to walk and exercise together and be mentors to each other. I know I will need help and inspiration during the 2 week liquid only diet before the surgery and for sure after the surgery.

Well, thats a little about me, looking forward to reading posts and being more involved with the boards and track my progress.

Ready for a new life,

Deb

Hello, he is doing well, the only problems he's had is a goan pull (which we can't figure out how that happened--it was so bad he couldn't lift his legs) but doctor assured him that isn't something common and perhaps he strained something trying to do the extra walking.  constipation is another problem because of all the vitamins--anyone have suggestions for that?

Other than those things, he's down 30 pounds already--and I'm ready to start my meetings soon.

Thanks!

Topic: RE: WLS Complications Scare Me, Advice...

I went through surgery in April and was really second guessing while on the gurney in the hallway.  The thought of surgery itself is scary regardless of what it is for.  My mother is an OR nurse and always told me never to have a gastric bypass the complications happen to everyone.  Well she does not yet know that I have had it done.  I have a bit of hair loss (it will grow back) and constipation (there are easy steps to deal with this issue).  I am diabetic, GERD, HBP, cholesteral, anemic before surgery.  I am  no longer on HBP meds, iron supplements, and i have reduced my meds for diabetes and GERD.  The benefits of this surgery exceed the risks of surgery and the other risks of being obese.  I wish I had it done earlier.

Whatever choice you make, it is yours to make.  Listen to all of the information and make a decision that you alone can live with.
