Topic: life and "stuff"
Been struggling for a few weeks now.  Seems my weight has taken a back seat to other life stuff at the moment.  That doesn't mean I haven't been watching what I am eating and drinking etc.  I still eat the protein and make sure I get in enough water and such.
I am completely overwhelmed with life in other areas.  I am in college (at age 41) and struggling  to make it work.  I am almost done set to graduate in May.  But am ready to call it quits.  The vitamins and protein and such has made me sick to the point of throwing up most of the time.  Hence not getting to class or when I am there, having to leave to head to the bathroom.
Also, I am on disability.  SS is having a fit with the debt stuff in Washington and pulled it out of their butts that I was overpayed some 15-17 years ago.  So am trying to figure that out so they don't take my income away so I can pay rent, utlitlies, etc etc.
There is more...but I think you get the idea.  How do I just cope and deal with everything that comes at me all at once?
I see my therapist once a week.  Try to get ideas and set small goals with her.  That seems overwhelming at times too.
suggestions?

Topic: RE: What Didn't I Try
We have all tried various things, not successful in the long run, over the years.  That is part of the reason we needed wls.  Yo yo weight is hard on your body.  Congats on making the decision for wls.  I am so glad that I made the choice.  Looking forward to the next installment of your journey.

Welcome to the group Julie.  Congrats on your wls and success so far.  Yes, we will come across bugs from time to time.  You are still in the healing process.  Keep fluids up and follow your surgeon's orders.

I agree that support is a big issue, that is the main reason I am here.  My life overtook for a bit, but I am back and catching up.  Yayyyy wls.

I had RNY 2 years ago, VSG was not an option for me at that time, so I had not done much research on it.  I have heard great things from others.  I stalled out for a long time and am not slowly losing again.  I do not aim for rail thin, just "normal" size.  I see it getting closer each week.  Post often and share your journey with us.  Hugs

Welcome to the group, what is your first name?  This time beofre surgery is filled with emotions, up, down, don't know which way to head.  They are all normal.  Start with a salad size plate, put half of your normal size portion on it and try a child size utensil.  Put the spoon/fork down between bites and chew each bite at least 20 times, pulverize the food.  This gets you into the habit of eating slower.  Try to not drink fluids with your meal.  I had the hardest time with separating food and fluids before surgery.  Much easier after, there simply is not room for both at the same time after surgery.

Get into the habit of doing some kind of exercise/walking each day.  Start slowly, do not let your body talk you into "let's not do this today"  Make it part of your life, like brushing you teeth and combing your hair.  I find that walking is my favorite, and of course my dogs fav too.  Having a walking companion is great.  Try to find a friend to walk with, make it a date to get together, have someone to be accountable to.

Getting off my soap box for a bit.  Let's lose together.

Topic: RE: Making bad choices! HELP
First of all Jeanine, stop belittinging yourself.  Buck up and be your own advocate, end the pity party.  Sorry, just had to give you an adjustment there.

Having a bite or two of carb is allowed, just get in the protein and veggies first.  They will slow the carb metabolism and should keep you satisfied.  I know the soda monster, he nabbed me too a while ago.  I find that I am more clear headed when I stay away from soda.  I have acceptable drinks prepared in the fridge so when I open the door, the choice is simple.  Choose healthy, choose what is made and ready to go.  Same principle for snacks, have some healthy things readily available and the other things do not have as much appeal.

I like Amalia's suggestion for flavoring water.  Consider addind a little unsweetened flavor, even flavor extracts, a drop or two per glass.  The spice isle at the grocery has several flavor extracts to choose from.  Try different flavored teas if you prefer warm fluids, of course you could make the tea and chill it, brain is just waking up for me this morning.  Do your best, here to walk the journey with you.  Hugs

Wow Lucy, love the avatar pic, you rocked your tool big time.  Congrats.  And yes, each and every surgeon has their own opinion on nutrition.  Could be that they left your friend with a larger pouch than ours.  I am thrilled that she is losing.  I hope that she is getting nutrition advice as she continues the journey.

Hope you enjoyed the trip with your son. How cool, did you see any great sights?

Welcome to the group Kryss, life has been keeping me from responding to posts.  I am back keeping up as I can.  Looking forward to reading more posts of your journey.  This is quite an adventure.

I had RNY 2 years ago, also hoping to put diabetes into remission, along with several other health problems.  I am happy to report that I took my last insulin injection the day before surgery.  I still have diabetes, but had had it for several years before seeking wls.  I am controlling my blood sugar with pills, nutrition and exercise.  Yayyy wls.  I am controlling is, not letting diabetes controll me!
