Newbie Question
Hi all, my name is Steve and I'm new to this site. I am hoping to have the RNY but am very early in the process (just got my referral approved for the psych exam).
I have a question to ask all those who are post-op RNY, does everyone have to have an EGD test, prior to surgery?
Thanks for any insight you can give.

Hi... congrats on this step to new life! yes everyone I know of including myself has had to have the EKG. or EGD text..the surgeon has to make sure EVERYTHING is safe.. you will also have to have a tube down the gastrintesinal track..drink crappy bubbles ad all that.. which is not too bad.. actually found hidden problems not otherwise looking for.. so do not get worried.. they should have given you a sheet with check offs of all the testings to look forward to.. if they havnt .. you can ask for it..least my Drs offered it.. and you can look on here in the search bar top left type in key words and poof.. lots of things to read... good luck!
Steve,
Like Tammy said, your doctor should have given you a check off list. I know mine did and I was able to meet my doctor in a seminar on September 20th, 2011 and have surgery on December 16th, 2011.
Once the surgeon gave me that checklist of things they would need, I called my primary care doctor and within a couple of weeks, I had over 50% of my checklist done.
A lot also depends on your insurance. Some will actually require you to go on a diet plan for 6 months. I was lucky that in February 2011, I weighed in at 365lbs and when I met my surgeon, I was down to 348 on my own and that served as my 6 months of dieting.
Good Luck and like Tammy, I am always here to help with any questions you may have that I can answer.

Thanks for the info Juan,
I already have the referral from the insurance to go forward without further dieting. My PCP has lots of history of my dieting attempts. I don't even get to see the surgeon until the psych eval has been completed and approved, so I haven't got anything yet.
