Gassy Question

I have not been around too much lately with the holidays and living my new life, but I wanted to know if anyone else has an abundant amount of gas since their surgery?  I find that no matter what I eat (something are worse of course) I end up having lots of gas.
Is there something I can take to eliminate it or change more of what I'm eating?  If someone has seen asked this and I have missed it sorry.  I'm about 5 months from my 2 year surgery date and have lost and additional 20 pounds from my initial goal weight.  I'M So happy I had this surgery!!!!1

I'm only just about a year out from wls and I just started running into this problem. I associated it with eating more. I take GasX and it seems to help. But on the night we have squash or cabbage for supper it does not work as well LOL Good luck

Lucy,

I feel your pain and can sympathize with you. Not only do you have gas you can't control it sometimes. I also get terribly bloated. I too take gas x. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Not sure if this is just something we have to live with or like you said if anybody has any other suggestions we sure would love to hear them

I feel you!  I think it is a part of our life going forward. Some foods like broccoli, cabbage, beans, and cauliflower tend to make it worse.  I wish I wouldn't feel so bloated and gassy some days.

Lucy, yes gas is an issue after wls.  I am a fan of gas X, simethicone, beano, whatever works for your excess gas.  I work in a hospital and tell my co-workers to just let me wander when I head to an empty room, I will return shortly.  I feel sorry for those around me when the gas rumbles.  I would not want to be stuck in a meeting when this happens.  Luckily, it is not a daily occurance.

Now for the fun news, sometimes, as in my case, this excess gas has a nasty, out of the ordinary stench.  This can affect us in our public lives.  I read an ad for Devrom in Obesity Help, decided, what the heck, and ordered a bottle.  This is over the counter and what is prescribed for those who have foul odor in conjunction with ostomy products.  The devrom started making working in just a few days with a reduction in foul gas odor.  I was without while waiting for my next order to arrive, the nasty gas resumed within a few days.  I now make sure that I always have a couple of bottles to spare at hand.  The dose needed will vary from person to person, experiment with the recommendations on the label.  I found 2 tablets twice a day help the best.  This is also available in a chewable tabled for those that need chewables.  I order right from the company, just do a web search for Devrom.  You may want to join up with a local friend and bulk order for savings on shipping.
