1 year down, lifetime to go

Hi all BB,

I saw my surgeon on the 2nd. He is thrilled with me. I started out being short of breathe walking to my car and now I can walk a mile with out a problem!!!! He did say it's time to start toning and building my muscle mass. To the gym I will go. I don't like it but I will do it anyway.

Many people ask how I have lost so much weight so fast. I think it's because I have never gotten my appetite back. AND I've always had a sensitive pouch. I have to be really strict with what I can eat. I still force myself to eat. Sometimes my sis gets on my case about not eating enough.  I simply forget. Then I must push the protein for a while to catch up. Not a good thing at times. My doctor said I should be able to eat just about anything now, but pasta is still my worst enemy. ( no sugars, of course.)
I'm so proud of all of us that started this weight loss surgery about the same time. It's so great to have had BB beside me the whole way.

You have done fantastic! You should be very proud of Yourself!
Can I pick your brain a bit please. You say you have trouble eating, but do you work out too? How much? I have lost so slowly and I think its because I can' t exercise like I need to, I know I still need to work on the mental thing too. Do you also have a good support system, do you go to group? I'm sorry for all the questions I'm a little bit depressed today and I'm doing way to much thinking. I don't post very often but I read a little everyday.
I don't even know you and I am so happy for you and how well your doing. Keep up the good work and thanks for your post. It is inspiring.

Hi Sunney,

I walk 5 days a week. (.8 to 1.2 miles right now.)When I first saw my surgeon I would have to stop and rest twice on the way to his office. It was at the end of a really long hallway. (and that was with my walker.) My doctor had me start out with baby steps. Walking out to get the mail and 20 steps 3 times a day that I wouldn't normally walk. I was up to 800 steps a day and lost 10 pounds. Start small and every week just add something new. All I could do was the first song on an exercise video and it was the warm-up. I don't know why you are not able to exercise at this point, but don't give up. Hang in there and don't be too hard on yourself. Keep me informed of your journey. We are here to support one another.

Going to the gym will be a new experience. They have an orientation class I must attend before I use the Equipment. It's a private gym and I don't pay anything for the use of it.

I have a great support system. My sis started eating exactly what I ate, but a little larger portions as she is much more active. She lost 30 pounds. I'm proud of her too. Not one of my friends and family were negative about the WLS. Two people I know already had the surgery and were very helpful on my journey. I don't go to the group in Tucson. I found BB and a forum to be all the support I need.  My life is so much better now, but I still must face the mental demons at times. Other foods that I loved are no longer a problem for me. (Well, once in awhile  it still sounds good.)

take care and be sure to post often.    Mag

He is a Shih tzu with a puppy cut. I also have his mate. They were given to me to chase away my empty nest blues. It worked they are so lovable.

 Way to go Mag!

Hopefully the gym will have a class that you will find really fun!  I never thought I would like pilates as much as I do, but I find it really a lot of fun.

Hi Lulubug,
Thanks for the encouragement. The gym does not have classes per say. Just the orientation on how to use the equipment on my own. There are two trainers in with the gym. When I get a few dollars ahead I'm going ask them to help me set up a good routine . Maybe next month I have the ability to do that.

    Thanks again,   Mag

A trainer is a really good idea. I used mine to make sure I wasn't hurting myself with some of the equipment and to show me some really effective exercises.   You tube has some great videos of exercises that you may find helpful. My trainer says some trainers will post videos to show you how to work specific muscles.

Good luck!
