Got my date!!!!!
Well they called today and gave me my date!!!!!! Starting 2 week liquid diet on 11/25/11, preop 11/30/11 and my date is December 9th!
So now i'm excited and the nerves are setting in. I am nervous of living off of liquids for 2 weeks. I'm getting nervous for the actual surgery too! I'm not liking the idea of being intubated and maybe because I am a nurse, I have a fear that I won't be able to be extubated. Getting nerves about the pain I am anticipating after I wake up and during recovery. I'm also scared that I am going to be a sense of being deprived or mourning the "loss" of ALL the foods I won't be able to have, and that makes me nervous. Are these stupid or valid concerns? I'm probably just being silly. Well I hope everyone is doing well and again, I am so thankful there is a site like this that I can come to and write my feelings down, and I know that there are others in my shoes!
Take care yall!

Congratulations on your surgery date! I know you're super excited. I understand your concerns with missing food. You can always look at it as an opportunity to gain life. Undoubtedly, your overall health will improve. And then there are all the cute clothes you'll be able to wear! LOL!! I wish I had some words of encouragement about the 2 weeks of liquid. It does get better after the 3rd or 4th day, but it still stinks. Just keep your eye on the prize... A new you, inside and out. :) Good luck!!!

Congrats on getting your date... I remember when I got mine about three weeks ago and now the surgury is only a few days away ((11-10-11)) and I cannot believe how fast it has flown by. Wish I could help on your worries but I am in the same boat as you, kind of in panic mode myself tonight but I know in the end it will all be worth it.
Congrats on your date for surgery. It's a good feeling. Everyone reacts differently when thinking about the food that will be gone from the menu. Maybe not forever but for a real long time. Try not to dwell on the negatives. Put yourself on the positive road. Face your fears and tell them they are not in charge of your life and to go away. I'm not a whoowhoo person, but I strongly believe in vocalizing that you are in control (or God is in control if that is your choice.) Hope this helps a little.
Hugs and best wishes, Mag

Congrats on your approaching surgery smile521f. I too am a nurse, the same feelings that come to others happen to us too. I was just eager to have the procedure done.
The waking up was uneventful. I was eager to get rid of the foley catheter post op, it was gone within a couple of hours of recovery. I was up and walking about in short stay surgery within 2 hours and headed to my room for the next couple of days.
The liquid diet was easier than I anticipated, long and boring, but very much possible. These memories have remained in my mind during the two years that have slipped by since surgery. I am loving my tool and still working it for my benefit. All of my co-morbidities have improved, not completely resolved, but greatly improved. Life is for living. Let's lose together!!!
