Bariatric Buddy
New to OH
Hello All!
I'm new to the site and looking forward to getting to know you and becoming part of the community. My surgery is scheduled for December 14th and I start my milk diet on November 21st. I hope the time flies, but in the meantime, I'd love to hear from anyone who wants to chat about pre-op preparations and/or general support topics.
Thanks,
Amber

Congrats on your date! I am scheduled for December 28th, well tentatively. i still need insurance approval but i had to get on the books so i can ask for FMLA. I am counting the days, literally, i have a countdown widget on my phone :)
can i ask something? what is the milk diet? i know we are supposed to do a preop diet to shrink the liver but i think mine is lean meats and veggies or something like that.
Each surgeon has a different pre op diet. Some recommend CIB (carnation instant breakfast -sugar free) 3-5 servings a day for 2-3 weeks before surgery. Some call this the 'milk diet'. Others recommend lean protein and veggies. Other surgeon's have no restriction and do a bowel cleansing. None of these is wrong and they all get the result that the MD is looking for.
My BMI was over 50 when I started and I was assigned to 3 weeks of the CIB diet with all the sugarfree jello, broth and crystal light I wanted. I made it through it, not fun, but when you set your mind to success, you can do amazing things.
When you just "need" to chew something, sugar free popsicles meet the need. I still keep a box of them in the freezer for those times when I want something sweet and allowable.

Welcome to the group Amber. The members make this group what it is. Some are new like you, others are a little farther out from surgery. Keep coming back and sharing your progress.
Do try to attend the monday evening chat sessions when you are able to make it. I try to come to the sessions as often as I can. We discuss whatever is on the minds of those that attend.
Any specific questions we can try to answer?
