Hey everyone!  I've been looking around for a bit on different discussions and decided it would be good to put myself out there and maybe talk about things that I may be feeling or going through with others who feel the same or have been there.
I'm 32, have been approved for the sleeve by my insurance company.  Got cardiology clearance and now I am told I have to loose 15 pounds and then they will give me a surgery date!  So everyone around me is like "ooh that's it, piece of cake"!  YEAH RIGHT!  If it was so easy for me to loose 15 pounds i would just keep going and loose it all!  I am so frustrated and just want my date already!!!!!!

Hang in there!!  This is an important part of your process to a better life!  Prior to surgery, you need to lose weight to reduce your liver size.  This will make surgery easier for the doctor.  It will also gear you up mentally and physically for the journey ahead.  Take your time and make minor changes.  I began with switiching brown rice for white rice, whole grain or whole wheat pasta for pasta, sweet potatoes for white potatoes.  I eliminated bread.  This will only help you in the long run.  Stop!  Don't be frustrated!!!!!  It will get better and you will lose!!!

I hope this helps!

Peace and Love,

 Hi Kim,

Hang in there and try not to be so hard on yourself.  If your mind is set, then you can do it.  Just keep thinking about the future without so much weight.  Since getting my surgery date I have been loosing without changing too much.  Keep trying, it will happen!

You can do it, go on Medifast or the diet your dr gives you to lose. Basically mine was like what i can eat now, post surgery. You eat smaller portions and high protein.

Thanks so much ladies!  It felt good to get some positive feedback and suggestions.  I am trying.  Trying to make better choices.  Trying to cut out carbs, but no pasta for an Italian is killer!  I'm hanging in there though.  I am just so ready for this.  thanks again to yall that responded.

I tried switching to a salad size plate instead of regular dinner plate.  Eat this serving, wait 15-20 minutes and assess if you are satisfied.  If still starved, try another small portion.  I found that slowing down eating, chewing well as instructed and using smaller utensils helped.  Also work on not drinking fluids with your meal.  You will not pack your eaten food as tightly and you will be full with less volume.

I had the hardest time separating eating from drinking fluids before surgery.  It can be done.  Completely changes your relationship with meals.

Try to start getting into the habit of exercising.  Make the small change in eating and activity and you will be rid of those 15 pounds.  We have all lost 15 pounds, multiple times over our lives.  When the surgery is complete, you will have the tool to keep on losing.
