I am making A LOT of bad food choices and drinking SODA!! Ugh, I am kicking myself in my ass telling myself that I have to smarten up! But for some reason I keep going back to the carbs and soda! I do eat my protein first and I don't drink and eat at the same time. I do exercise (3x a week at the gym plus trying to get into jogging). I am throwing myself a pity party here lol! I am part of OA and I do have a councelor (sp). I am not in any mood when I eat the carbs/soda I just like them. SO What I would like to know from you, my friends on OH, is how can I stop eating the carbs and soda? I have offically cut the soda out (as of today). So what can I replace the soda with? I cannot do anything with aspertame (sp) because it gives me really bad headaches! I need something with flavor because I cannot drink water all the time! Thank you in advance for you help and advice!

No one can stop you from eating or drinking the wrong things, it's something you have to do for yourself. That being said and since you can't handle sugar substitutes, try adding a little lemon, orange or mint to your water to change the taste.

If it's the carbonation you are looking for from the sodas why don't you try a carbonated water... like pelligrino with lemon or orange or those selzter waters from Target.  you will have to see which ones have aspartame but there are a lot to choose from out there.  as for carbs, I eat them but I stay away from breads and too much pasta and i really keep that under control.  You can do it.  You just got to remind yourself you never wanna go back to the way you use to be.  :) good luck.

i drink sobe life water zero, or power aide zero.
read labels one of them on the market may have the right sweetener for you.
I don't drink bubbles......can't deal with it.

as for the carbs, don't buy them. step back from them. do something else when you get the urge to eat them, replace the behavior.
good luck

i will say i do eat some carbs but not a lot. i dont do soda. i get weekends where i slack off and i understand. esp near grocery shopping day. i just dont want u to beat yourself up. you know what you are doing wrong and you can change it. dont feel like u cant have bad carbs ever though. a bite never hurt anyone, or even a little more than that for that matter.

Jeannie, I'm not post surgery yet, but I am paying much more attention to foods and drink.  I just found that Crystal Light makes a lemonade and a couple other flavors for water that are sweetened with Truvia and sugar.  So, they may be a help.  Check out their label.  Re carbs, if you must have pasta, try the brown rice or whole wheat pastas.  I prefer the brown rice pasta and, in small amounts, may be ok for you.  I have never been much of a soda drinker.  I know carbonation is highly discouraged by my doc but they do say soda can be had if it is flat and that would require leaving the can/bottle open.  If it's the carbonation you crave, I don't have a clue.  You may just have to not go there.  Good luck!
I hope you dance with enthusiasm... and a million other things joyful!

First of all Jeanine, stop belittinging yourself.  Buck up and be your own advocate, end the pity party.  Sorry, just had to give you an adjustment there.

Having a bite or two of carb is allowed, just get in the protein and veggies first.  They will slow the carb metabolism and should keep you satisfied.  I know the soda monster, he nabbed me too a while ago.  I find that I am more clear headed when I stay away from soda.  I have acceptable drinks prepared in the fridge so when I open the door, the choice is simple.  Choose healthy, choose what is made and ready to go.  Same principle for snacks, have some healthy things readily available and the other things do not have as much appeal.

I like Amalia's suggestion for flavoring water.  Consider addind a little unsweetened flavor, even flavor extracts, a drop or two per glass.  The spice isle at the grocery has several flavor extracts to choose from.  Try different flavored teas if you prefer warm fluids, of course you could make the tea and chill it, brain is just waking up for me this morning.  Do your best, here to walk the journey with you.  Hugs
