Hello everyone. My name is David. My hopes in joining this site is to share my weight loss journey with others who can relate to my struggle. I've been battling obesity for a better part of 20 years. It started when I was 13. I remember using fast food as a source of comfort to cope with the sexual abuse I suffered when I was 7. Through my high school years I used food whenever I couldn't deal with any stressful situation: An upcoming exam; Rejections from girls at school: Being bullied at school for being introverted and withdrawn from my peers...just to name a few. I tried working out in the high school gym..which helped me stay in shape. But after graduation I began putting on weight more frequently. I even went as far a running straight into my room to overeat in hopes that my family wouldn't find out. Throughout my 20s every relationship I had was with women who took advantage of my low self esteem. Although I knew deep inside they were wrong for me, my fear of noone accepting me for my hefty size kept me some very self destructive, co-dependant relationships. Even my current relationship has a similar pattern. It wasn't 'till about 3 years ago I chose to stop this vicious cycle and began taking my life back. It was at that time I had reach my heaviest( 340 lbs) and finally was able to put a name to my disease any admit that I am a compulsive overeater. Thank you for allowing me to share with you. My next entry will include my many attempts to loose weight..some worked for a short time...others were down right crazy...have a safe day

Welcome to the group David.  Looking forward to hearing more of your life.  I too used food to avoid things in life.  I had RNY 2 years ago and wish that I had had the courage to inquire about wls 20+ years ago.  Life is anew, to be lived.

Stay safe yourself.  Where are you at in the wls process, post op?  Which surgery will/did you choose?  Kathy
