Nearly three weeks out & can't keep protien down???
Well, Monday will be three weeks since my sleeve. I have been having some issues with keeping protein down. I have lost 25lbs but I feel like I am not getting enough nutrients in. I have tried several different protien drinks, mixes, etc. I can't seem to keep them down and my stomach constantly hurts like with hunger pains. I ate an actual cheese stick today and feel wonderful. Smoking has actually helped me because I'm not supposed to eat but smoking a cigarette curbs the pains. I hate smoking but if I can't eat I have to do something. Anyone else have any ideas? I'm going to call my Dr. Monday. I am praying that this will not continue. Thanks for letting me vent.
What will your MD say about the smoking? Are you getting your liquids in? I know that the MD's do not expect us to ge able to get in all the protein for a few weeks after surgery, just to do our best. Have you tried other soft protein sources, yogurt, greek yogurt, refried beans, cottage cheese? Do contact your MD tomorrow for his/her input. Are you able to walk or get in other activity? Keep working on the protein. Hugs

Hi lady,
I know it is very difficult at first, but it will get better. You just have to find a protein shake or dink that your body will tolerate. I used drinks called muscle milk that I found at WalMart. Now I can handle the thicker shakes Like Kathy said, They usually don't expect you to be able to do it all at first. Get protein first, then water. Exercise is important, too. Hugs Mag .

Hi ladybug! I am 6 weeks out and my stomach hurts every time I eat or drink. I just feel sick most of the time and keep hoping it will lessen. I have not had any trouble taking in the protein shakes, cottage cheese, string cheese and yogurts but on the soft foods I have had trouble with chicken and fish. I think I'm getting my protein in but feel weak most of the time. Have you tried the Unjury protein? The Muscle milk is okay too. Hope your doctor has an answer for you. Hang in there!!
I apologize for not replying sooner. Apparently I can't reply from my phone and I don't get on the laptop very often. I am doing better since I have been able to eat some foods. I too feel tired all the time but I also have RA which fatigue is a huge side effect of that. I'm trying some different protein shakes as we speak but I'm still having problems with them. I have always had some issues with milk like constipation and stuff so I'm going to try the lactose free ones next to see if that could be the problem. I appreciate all the advice and help to my questions. The support given in this group is great.
Thanks,
crystal

I just tried muscle milk for the first time (bc I was traveling and thats what I could get from the convient store) and it wast bad at all. It is lactose free. I ended up mixing mine with milk to make it taste better and served it verrrry COLD.
I agree wtih the post about soft proteins like cottage cheese and greek yogurt. Both are slider foods, so you wouldnt be able to do them forever. So talk with your surgeon as well.
Hope things get better for you.
