I'm home and I am working on sipping liquid all day but I am just a little scared now to eat and I am scared to drink to fast.  I am afraid of causing myself any pain... how do you try to incorporate yogurt and stuff when you have been on liquids for 8 days lol.

Welcome to the loser's bench Marcia.  Did your surgeon send you home with instructions on adding soft foods in to your diet?  Each surgeon has differing instructions that they use.  I was to continue the shakes for a couple of weeks after surgery and then add in small meals, we are talking just a bite or two at first and I was full.  Take this easy, try a bite or two and see what your pouch has to say.  Make these bites very tiny.  We are talking 20-30 minutes to eat up to 30 ml or an ounce of food.  Even with the yogurt, chew it well.  It takes our pouches up to 20 minutes to realize that we have eaten and are full.  You do not want to know what overfull feels like, it is painful.

Remember to wait 30 minutes before and after eating to sip on your shakes.  Let us know how this goes.  Hugs

Thank you  - this really helps me - I have gotten more broth down and even had a whole shake (tho not all at once in 2oz. increments)  I even had a colace pill that the doctor told me I could take so I am getting less scared... but yes I will take it super super slow I plan to hopefully never have serious pain again lol

Congratulations!!!!!
I am so excited for you!
After surgery, my doc had me do 4 days of clears following surgery, then moved to full liquids for a week, then 10 days of puree, then soft foods for 2 weeks then regular foods slowly (not there yet).
Anyway, I could only eat a few bites when I started full liquids (day 5 post-op). It took me 30 mins to eat a few ounces.
Just take it slow, like everyone said, and give time for the bites to settle. I felt like I was learning to eat again (in a way).
I'm so glad you updated us. Keep us updated!

I remember that stage very clearly.  It wasn't very long ago that I was on that stage to.  I was able to eat yogurt after surgery while I was in the hospital but even now my stomach doesn't tolerate it.  My suggestion to you is take a bite let it sit in your stomach for about 5 to 10 mins.  If you don't get pain or throw it up then your stomach will handle it.  Every time I have gotten sick it is usually 6 to 7 mins after taking a bite.  And remember to check the sugar grams I have noticed for myself that if its over 8 grams I get really sick.  But I know everyone is different.  Good luck.  I wish you great success!!!

Hi Marcia,

Everyone has given you good solid advice. I don't have anything to add to that. Just wanted to say congrats on starting your post-op journey. The losers bench is never too full. Welcome to the flip side.   Mag

Thank you all :) and I had yogurt for the first time today :) it was really good and yes I agree that it's like learning to eat all over again.  I am feeling better just gotta remember to pack a bag of things when I leave the house so I don't miss my protein and water.  Thank you :) I see the doctor for a follow up on 7/28
