Exercise for those with knee and back problems

Hi, all,  I haven't posted for a couple weeks but, I've been checking in.  Hi to all the newbies!

I have knee and back problems which limit my mobility.  I am starting to become extremely sedentary because I can't walk but several feet and standing for any more than a few minutes is just short of impossible.  I want to get some exercise in and have been considering a recumbent bike because of the support it give my back as well as being able to get some cardio without the weight on my knees.  Have any of you tried one?  Have you any recommendations?  I appreciate any feedback you may have.

Thanks for being out there and with me!

Hi Diana,

I have had back and knee issues for a long time. When I first started my weight loss journey I used a walker inside and out of the house. Walking to the car was a real struggle. I couldn't stand up but a minute or 2 myself. My doctor (not surgeon, but ENT) sent me for PT. It helped so much I feel that I'm at a place where I can work on it at the exercise room at our social center.   I don't know about tonight but I'll PM you with some of the stuff they started me out on. All of it sitting early on. They were fabulous to me and for me.    Mag

What abou****er exercise?  Can you try that?  Less strain on joints and such - not sure if it's enough of a relief though for your situation.  Just a thought.

Too funny, Jennifer!  That's hilarious.  I didn't know the site would do that.  Water exercise is a good thought and I would like that but I don't have ready access to a pool.  That's why I was considering a recumbent bike since it has back support and I would be sitting.  My friend has a pool at her subdivision and is willing to share but I am at her mercy as to time and availability.  It would have to be supplemental exercise.  I welcome any additional suggestions.

Thanks for responding!

I didn't know that either!  I guess we now know we can't type ****! lol  That stinks abotu the pool availability.  There's no YMCA near you?  Let us know how the recumbent bike works out for you.  I wonder if you can find one that you can try somewhere before making a purchase that large.

Try googling chair exercises, or exercises for those with your issues. There are lots of options out there, but I don't have these issues, so I haven't looked that deeply into this. best of luck!
