Hey Everybody ~ I'm Tiffany

Hello everyone,

I am new to OH. My name is Tiffany. I had gastric bypass March 31, 2011. I have lost 52 lbs. I am proud of my weight lost and it's cool when people at work say they can tell I have lost weight. But when I look in the mirror I still look big. Does anyone else feel like this?

Hi Tiffany, welcome. I had the VSG last year and am in the teens as far as weight in kilos in concerned to my goal. Yet I still feel HUGE. Does that help you? Of course not. How each of us FEELS about their body is a very personal thing. What we must do is LOVE ourselves at any weight, if for no other reason, then because we are our one and only best friend.
All that being said I wish you best of luck in your weight loss efforts.

Hi Tiffany,
I feel like this all the time. Even though my pants fall off and I get compliments saying I have lost weight! I had RNY on May 13, 2011 and I am just a month out so I am still big and not near my goal at all. But I do feel like even though I have lost 50 lbs since I started my Journey I still feel quite large! it's normal it's all part of our body image issues!

What's worth the PRIZE is ALWAYS worth the FIGHT!

I was told this is called Dysmorphia. We still "see" ourselves as our former bigger selves, no matter how small we get. with time and effort and self honesty and acceptance, this will pass at least for the most part. What I usually recommend is for people who suffer with this to take a before pic and have it enlarged a bit. Hang it on your bathroom or bedroom mirror. Then when you look at yourself and feel the same as you were you can look at the old picture and the newer you and see the difference right before you.

Welcome to our group! Congrats on your wls!

It akes a while for our minds to catch up with our bodies. Take photos and measurements. It is amazing to see the changes in pics and inches lost. Of course the way your clothes fit says a whole lot too. Congrats on your success, keep working your surgeon's program. Hugs
