Challenge...NOT for everyone!

Well keep checking in here with us and ask questions and share progress or challenges. Meanwhile check out (google to find the site) Bariatric support center international (BSCI) they offer a back on track class and literature, but it is a paid offering.
Dig out the instructions your bariatric surgeon provided you with and start following that again. Decarb, drink lots of water, walk 20 minutes a day, focus on protein, leave soda and alcohol alone etc...  Pick a few areas to begin to work on and get psyched up to succeed!

How far out are you, and what procedure did you have? Problem with WLS is it is only a temporary help, and doesn't fix the "head" stuff... it takes a lot of work to live wls friendly. Hope we can help you get back to where you need to be

Hi, I'm new - one week out from the sleeve. I've really enjoyed your posts here but don't see any from the last two weeks. Did you start another thread? I'll be looking for you.

Hi Leslie,

It's nice you found this thread. We started this as a shorter term challenge, but we were very happy with the results and we kept going until we just sort of drifted off.  Amalia is on vacation, Patrece is super busy this summer and I am fairly fresh out of the hospital. We friends have to stick together don't we. I'll post in the main discussion posts to see if anyone wants to join us. May not get many takers until summer is over. Patrece was thinking that we may be able to start a chat room for those of us wanting to support each other in real time. What would you think of that?        Mag

HI. (shyly waving). I lost my way again from you guys.  I got super busy, but I wont lie and say that was the only reason.   I need to get back on track, not that I have been that far off track.  Mostly it has just been my thinking thats been off track.  I have seemed to have gotten complacent.  Smug and secure feeling at the amount of weight loss I have had.  Didn't realize I had done it, but I strayed away from the guidelines of the pouch.

Grazing has been my worst enemy.  Now whether I did it because it just felt good to feed my face every 2 hours or if I did it because I was afraid to really get that full feeling (the twinge of pain), I dont know.  I do know that it's not working for me.  I have been bouncing around with the same 5 pounds for awhile now, not quite reaching 100 pound lost.

Haven't been to the gym.  Part of that has been embarrassment.  Somehow one of my payments for the personal trainer sessions didnt clear.  They agreed to split it up for me to make in 2..  well then they took it out on the wrong date and it didnt clear.  Needless to say since then i have not had the $$$ to finish paying them.  So I have been avoiding the gym out of embarrassment and fear that they will ask for the money and I have to tell them i dont have it.  I will however have the $$$ this week (thursday) when I get paid.  I also was a little pissed off at them because I have already paid for majority of the package of PT sessions (over $2000) and all I have left to pay is $200.  Don't know why I couldnt use the sessions that I had paid for already...  anyways enough about that.. it will be taken care of this week.  Only just in time for me to be gone for 11 days and totally away from the gym.  IRONY!!!

My PLAN:
- Do the 5 day pouch plan
- Drink 80 oz of water 4 times this week and 64oz 3 times
- WiiFit x3 this week for 30minutes
- Workout at gym Th/Fri/Sat this week

Whats new?
- I am a new Aunt and a 1st time Great-Aunt.  Sister had her son and my niece had her daughter.  This is the reason for such a long vacation.  Its not like I can really afford it, but I do have PTO (paid-time-off) but its at base rate.  Better than nothing I guess.
- I am down b/t 267-270 pounds (pre-surgery weight was 360).  Down from size 26 to very loose size 22.
-Fiance is still out of work, but is working on his GED.  Tentively Planning on getting married next October. Found a dress that I adore.  Its a little pricey, but I am worth it.

Will try to check in a couple of times this week, then next week I will be away.

Fran!!!! It's great to hear from you. I've missed you. Not many of the group that started out new with around. I'm hoping that once summer is over they will have more time to check in.

We really aren't using this challenge anymore. Amalia went on vacation and I haven't heard from her to know if she is back. Kathy posted a note. She said that Patrece moved and is busy unpacking. K & P talk everyday on the phone.

I tried to ask people if the wanted to start anew challenge but no one is interested. Which is good because Patrece would have to start it for us. She has no Internet right now so I don't know when we will hear from her.   Many hugs    Mag

Hi KimE,
Thanks for posting. This challenge was started as a one month challenge and is now not being used. I ask if anyone was interested in a new challenge, but had no takers. Our leader has had a very busy summer. She is the one who has to start new posts you see in the green.
Please post below and let us all support you on your journey. You have asked for support and we are here to provide it. You can turn this around and lose your re-gain.  You are right to get your WLS book back out. It's back to basics.
I'm leaving on vacation on Wednesday but there are many to support you. Kathy is the co-leader and will have a lot to offer you.   Take care,   Mag

Hello,

I am a new member.  I had my surgery 8/8/2011 so I am 6 weeks post op.  I have lost 14 pounds since my surgery and I am feeling alittle fustrated.  I thought I would have lost more my now and I wanted to ask what the average weight loss per week is for everyone.  I did not lose weight at all last week.

I did start back to yoga this week.

Please help.

Thank you

There are a few things to consider when feeling like weight loss is going too slow. Key tho, is to remember everyone loses differently. I lost 25 my first month, then it slowed from there. Did you have gastric bypass? Sleeve? band? type of procedure can affect rate of loss, band being the slowest usually.

If your weight loss is not what you feel it should be, there are a few things to ask yourself.
1. Are you eating too much or too little?
2. Are you getting your water in?
3. Are you getting plenty of protein in? May need a supplement. Too little protein will slow weight loss significantly.
4. Are you getting in at least 30 minutes of exercise or other moderate intensity activities each day?

Plateaus are normal even after WLS. Sometimes too, we need to shake things up to get past a plateau or stall in weight loss. Change activity, increase water and protein, etc.

We all lose differently, and the more excess weight we have usually the faster we will lose early on. so if you weighted 250 lbs, you will lose much slower than someone at 300,350 or 400. WLS does take work and effort to work and to work properly. Review the directions / instructions given to you by your surgeon and make sure you are on track.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your reply.

I had gastric bypass surgery.  I am writting down my foods,I am getting in my water and protein.  I guess I was hoping to lose faster than what I am.  I just started exericing, hopefully that will kick my weight loss in the butt.
