Hoping for my life changing surgery soon

Hi My name is Tammie. I am hoping for my surgery to happen at towards the end of next month. All my requirements are done except I am waiting on going back to the sleep center for a 2nd time. They said I have moderate sleep apnea. I just had my final consult with my surgeon yesterday and so just waiting on that to happen then going for my pre op stuff. I'm so glad I found you guys. I feel a little alone in this. For the last couple of weeks I've been letting family and friends know about what is happening and I've answered so many questions and listened to "why would you have unnecessary surgery? Can't you just try harder to diet?" Ughhhh....They don't understand that this decision isn't an overnight one or one that is taken lightly. For me, I started on this journey last July. Since then meeting with doctors, nutritionists and going to informational meetings and support groups. I have been a yo-yo dieter all my life and with every diet, came more weight...I now weigh 261 and I'm thrilled, scared and every other emotion I can think of about having this surgery. Mainly I can't wait to feel healthy again and being able to get off all my meds would be a dream come true!
So Thanks again for this wonderful site!!! I love reading how everyone is doing on their journeys to a more healthy life

I'm sooo excited...I go for my titration on May 24th.  I just hope I can get to sleep in a timely manner this time.  I find it so difficult when I have all those wires and goop on my head...lol

Hi Tammie,

I know it's a little confusing.  When I first had surgery I set a goal weight of 130.  I reached that goal in December.  Then I thought what the heck, I need a new goal, and I set a goal weight of 115, I just met that in the past couple of weeks.  I'm currently at 111 pounds and hope to stay in this range.

Hi Tammie,
Welcome to the group. I'm suppose to have a sleep study but no one has called yet to set up the appointment. I have been on C-PAP for 12 years. My machine is so old I need a new one. Insurance won't pay unless I have the sleep study done. So we will both getting wires and gel in our hair.
   Take care.    Mag

Hi Mag.
Thanks for the welcome.  For both my sleep studies I had to call them and make the appointment.  The first time I waited well over a month before getting on the phone and scheduling it myself.  The dr. told me the order went in, so I called and they said "oh we have the order and someone will be calling to schedule"...well after a month I called myself and made the appointment.  No problem.
For this 2nd one, I called the dr. to make sure the order was put in for it and then just called right away to make an appointment.
Long story short...don't wait for them or you could be waiting forever..lol.
I just hope I can sleep with all that goop on me :)
Take Care,
Tammie

Tammie, welcome to the group. Bring your fav pillow and plan to sleep. Anticipation and excitement can affect ability to sleep. Be boring before you go. The goo washes out of your hair fairly easily. I was surprised with my sleep study, I did sleep. The best sleep in weeks after the put the cpap mask on me. Didn't know what I had been missing.

Good to be your own advocate and call for the appointments. Let us know what you learn, hoping for a quick surgery date for you. Hugs

Hi all...Had my 2nd sleep study and it went MUCH better than the first.  I actually slept quite a bit :)  The technologist said she got good readings and that she had adjusted my levels throughout the night.  It felt strange at first when she put the mask on me.  I  panicked a little when the mask was first put on but got used to it.
Now, just waiting for the report to get back to my Dr. and then have him fax the order over to the bariatric center and they will order me the c-pap and she said she can then give me my surgery date    I'm so excited....almost there now
