Have to gain weight

This is the first time in two weeks that I have had the strength to sit at my desk for more than 5 or 10 minutes so I thought I would throw this out there and see what you guys had to say.

I have been ill ever since my plastic surgery on March 29; basically weak and unable to eat.  Everything tastes like it is spoiled, the texture is weird and even water doesn't taste right.  When I tried to force feed myself I ended up gagging and throwing up.  I still can't eat a lot of things but it has improved a little.  The main problem is that almost everything that is palatable has sugar in it.  I saw my surgeon two weeks ago.  My goal weight was 145 and I wasn't sure I would be able to get there.  I am now at 117 as of  my last office visit and need to put on about 30 pounds.  I look like a skeleton and I can't stand it.

I have no idea how I am going to gain weight without eating garbage food. The surgeon has me on 4 protein shakes a day but I don't think that's going to do much.  I'm dizzy if I stand too long, my skin is dry and I'm just basically a mess.  I feel like I should be in the hospital but feel stupid going in there with this problem.  My regular doctor is on vacation.  At first we thought my problems with taste/texture had to do with thrush.   I've been through two rounds of anti-fungal treatments and that apparently wasn't the issue. I still have a very heavy metallic taste in my mouth.

Anyway, if anybody has any suggestions about gaining weight, I'd love to hear them.

Colleen,
I have no advise, but I'm worried about you. Have you been talking to the plastic surgeon? I will be praying for a speedy recover and a return to health. How is your lab work? Do you still have your gallbladder? I spent 3 and 1/2 weeks vomiting until they removed mine. Are you having any pain with this? Hang in there. Keep us posted when you have some strength.  As ever,   Mag

The metalic taste is from rapid fat burning. You are going to have to get in nutrition however you can right now. Drink carnation instant breakfasts, protein, smoothies, whatever you can if you are unable to eat solids. Have you followed up with the surgeon that did your plastics?
It can be normal to lose some weight after surgery, as our bodies burn like 3000 calories a day when healing, and thats just for healing, not anything else.

I would also suggest to mix a scoop of protein into crystal light and sip sip sip it allllll day long (well several of them). this way you are getting a constant source of nutrition, protein and calories.

I'll give you 10 or 15 of my lbs! then we'd both be happier...lol

I just don't get whats going on that you cannot eat. Think you need to seek medical attention asap on this. You cannot afford to lose anymore!

I'm sorry you are going through this situation, and I will send positive thoughts your way. I can only repeat what everyone else has suggested.  Try to see a Dr as soon as you can, they have to figure this out for you. Also, just keep sipping at those protein shakes and maybe mix it up a bit with some carnation instant breakfast, boost, or even ensure.  Best of luck!

Thanks to all for the suggestions.  It seems that I had a breakthrough and the metallic taste is gone from my mouth.  Hubby made pork chops last night.  I had a few bites of pork chop, half a small baked potato with sour cream and butter an ice cream sandwich and a frosted sugar cookie.  Everything tasted GOOD!!!!!!

Right now I am having coffee and am going to either make toast or hit the drive through at Burger King.  I had coffee for the first time in almost 2 months yesterday.  My surgeon isn't anti-coffee like some are.

I feel pretty good again today.  I saw my doctor yesterday and he upped the dosage on my vertigo medication and lowered the dosage on the one I take for adult ADD.

Thanks again to all *****sponded.

I have been wondering how you are doing Colleen. Wish I had the magic answer. Read my post above on the adipose transfer system. Not sure which post it was to at this moment. Let us know what your MD suggests. Do your best to comply. I am still trying to lose, willing to send any extra # your way. Hugs
