Bariatric Buddy
Just joining you last night
I see a few have introduced themselves here so, I am jumping on the wagon... I am happy to join this group. From what I've read and seen so far, this is a good place to be for support and answers.
My name is Diana and I've lived in Woodstock, GA, for the last 19 years. I moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area where I was born and lived most of my life until I moved here. I have one son, 32 yrs old. I am 57 yrs old and divorced since May of 2006 after a 10-yr marriage.
I have had to deal with weight gain since I stopped growing in height at about 13. Until I was in my late 20s, I was able to keep my weight under 140. After that, I've increased in weight with many attempts at weight loss; never able to lose more the 40 lbs at a time and always gaining back more than that each time. Not an unfamiliar story.
I was pretty active until I hyperextended my knee in a bicycle accident. After that injury is when I really started gaining. The injury made my knee susceptible to many additional hyperextensions and my activity decreased successively after that. I used to walk and hike and loved to be outdoors and that injury curtailed the many things I loved to do. Along with a back injury when I was really young that flared up tremendously in my mid 30s, I pretty much gave up on living the life of activity I used to live. The added weight increased my difficulty and here I am... over the top and ready to stop the insanity.
I want to get back to some moderate level of activity and that's not going to happen with all this fat on my body. So my new journey begins. Step one taken on a long adventure.
It's great to have this vehicle to turn to and I know it will be a place I spend a fair amount of time at. I hope to be able to learn, share, and to make some treasured and lasting friendthips.

Hi Diana,
Love that name of yours. Thanks for introducing yourself. Your previous post was wonderful. You are an honest., open and caring person. You are going to fit here with us very well. Please feel free to ask people to be your friend. I've never had anyone turn me down. There is Monday night chat session which I love but haven't been able to attend regularly lately. I believe it is at 7PM your time. Mag

Diana, welcome to the group. Your story sounds familiar. We are here to support you through this process. I had RNY sept of 2009. My body is thrilled that there is less of me to haul about. Sore knees are better too. I can now walk several miles and still move about. Looking forward to getting to know you better. Any questions, just ask. Hugs

Diana it is great to have you in our group. It is a wonderful group of people here, and worth being involved in. I wish you the best of luck as you embark on this journey. I know it is one of the best things I have ever EVER done for myself! It isn't all easy, but it is soooo worth it! I have come so far... physically and emotionally and mentally. I am a work in progress, but always progressing!
Feel free to ask any questions, share any thoughts, feelings, etc. It doesn't all have to be about weight and weight loss either. We support each other through many aspects of life, and love to share in the good times too!

Thanks for sharing Diana. I am new too as you know. I also struggled since my teens but was successful at keeping the weight down (albeit up and down****il back surgery in 1997. After a few years of limited ability to move...the bad habits set in. Now the knees are also starting to hurt ...I am so thrilled there are like - minded people here with whom to share. Feels great to express the thoughts and feelings - thanks all!
