Ultimately, the surgeon is the one who makes the final decision.  You didn't really say how long it took to take off the 5 pounds; maybe they think you aren't losing fast enough.  Depending on your weight, 5 pounds is no big deal to lose.  Are you counting calories and keeping a food journal?  You may be eating more than you realize or eating unhealthy.

Just my opinion.  Good luck!

Hi Tim,   I'm glad you are willing to try harder. That is a good thing. I agree with everything Colleen said. OH has a heath tracker here. I use it to record everything I eat. (good or bad.) That way I know if I need to correct something. Also good to take your body measurements. It's great encouragement to see inches disappear.  Good luck on your journey. Keep us posted.   Mag

Tim, I am thrilled that you are adding exercise to your day.  Any bit of activity helps your muscles burn stored fat.  Increase your activity as you can, keep drinking water during times when you sweat a lot to replace fluids.  Water walking is great exercise.  Five pounds in a month is a good start, you are headed the right direction.  The surgical team wants to know that you are trying your best.  They also want to know that you can follow instructions, the instructions they give will help you to lose the weight safely and quickly.

Sometimes we need someone to prod and push us to do a little more for ourselves.  So, get up and walk more, add the other activities your dietician recommends.

Are you eating slowly, putting your fork or spoon down between bites and trying to chew each mouthful at least 20 times?  This slowing your meal down really makes a difference.  It takes that long for your stomach to realize that it is satisfied.  When your hunger is starting to get less, stop eating for the meal.  Eating until you get that "I'm stuffed and can't eat another bite" feeling is too much food.  Getting into the habit of eating slowly and smaller portions helps.  Try using a smaller plate or bowl to serve your portion of food onto.  It still looks like your plate is full, just a little less on it.

Keep trying, you will get there.

Yayyyy Tim, congrats on keeping the chili to one bowl.  That is a great start.  Go to the pool alone for the walking, you do not need to know how to swim to water walk.  Just go in to about your waist and simply walk back and forth.  Try walking backward for something different, works different muscles in the legs.
