Pre Weight Loss

Would like to know how many of your surgeons required you to lose weight before you went on liquid diet.  Before I get my surgery date I am required to lose 25lbs..  That just seems like an awful lot to me.  I would think I would lose close to that according to people who have been on the pre-op special liquid diet.  I would love to hear from as many people as possible.  Thanks.

I was encouraged to lose weight, not required and no goal # to lose before surgery set.

Some surgeons are checking to see that you are committed to the lifestyle change and can follow orders before actually doing the surgery.  Do your best, with dedication, it can be done.  You may even consider doing a few days of the liquid diet to jump start the losing.  I have faith that you will succeed with this goal too.  One day at a time, one hour at a time, one bite at a time.

Start the healthy habits that you will use after surgery.  We are here to walk this path with you.  Hugs

Congrats on your surg I hope all is going well.  Thank you for answering my post.  You said you did everything your diatician told you to do.  I'm just curious as to what she/he had you do.  What do you mean by giving up liquid calories?  If you feel ok I would really like to know what you did.  Thank you.  I did request you as a friend but you haven't answered yet.  If you would like to friend me that would be great if you don't that's ok.  Thank you for any info you can give me.  Good luck on your journey.

Thank you for answering my post.   I am trying the best I can but don't get the support at home.  They want me to have the surg but aren't willing to help me.  They keep all the foods I shouldn't have and am having to face that everyday.  I am a diabetic so I do watchI  what I eat but still sometimes can't resist.   Thank you for your response it means a lot.

Thank you,

Michele

My Dr. didn't give me a specific #, but I know if you don't lose from following the liquids he will cancel surgery til he knew you were serious... I think it's impossible to follow complete liquids on the diet he gave and not lose.... I suppose If I weighed more then it would be necesary. My dad is getting a lap band and he is required to lose 25lbs right now he weighs almost 400lbs... maybe it;s for  health and surgical reasons.... Anyway  stick to it! it is so worth it.... 3 more days to go for me.. then I can call myself a LOSER!!!!

Thank you Tammy for your reply to my post.  How much weight did you lose before you went on the actual 2 week pre-op diet?  What did you do to lose weight?  What kind of meals.  I'm so sorry if I'm bugging you with trivial questions but I am trying so hard.

I was not "required" to lose but encouraged. I am following my Stage 2 food diet right now and plan on doing my complete liquid diet for 3-4 weeks before my surgery to help me lose as much weight possible before surgery! I know that I will def be on my liquid diet 6 weeks! I just want to use this diet to help shrink my liver and make it safer for me and my surgeon!

What's worth the PRIZE is ALWAYS worth the FIGHT!

Thank you Jeanine for your innput.  Did your surgeon work with you on doing the liquid to lose the pre-op weight before you had to do the actual liquid diet before surgery?  I'm wondering if I could do the same.  What are you using for your liquid diet?  I know there are different kinds to use.  I'm going to see a diatician for the purpose of losing weight.  I have a bit of a problem because I am diabetic and don't want to mess with my sugar levels.  Thank you for answering my post.  I am also going to friend you so we can e-mail more if you should accept.  LOL.

Thanks Again,

Michele
