Why can't they ever say good job.  It always seems to be 'not good enough' job.  I am losing slower than my dr would like so I get the lecture...  I think I know what I'm doing wrong, but I also think I have always been a slow loser.  Then he tells me that the VSG is only going to help me lose for the first year after surgery so it's important to lose it now, blah blah...  well, I figured it up and if I keep losing at my rate, I should be down around 150 by my 1 yr aniversary surgery date and that's pretty damn good I think.  I reminded him that I was down from 300 but then he pretty much discounted the weight I lost from May - November... He only looks at what happened after surgery... grrrr....

Part of what he says is right, but it is still discouraging.  This 1st year, the golden 365 days of the honeymoon are when you will lose the most.  Ideally you want to be as close to goal in a year, but more importantly you want to have developed very good eating and exercising habits because after that 1st year, you will need them!  Hunger returns, the high from all the compliments is gone (most people don't remember you "fat") and you are on your own.

You said "I think I know what I'm doing wrong".....which indicates you probably aren't as compliant as you should be--you'd be wise to kick yourself in the hiney and get on track.

Remember, it is hard sometimes but you did this so you could be healthy.  And you are worth it.  Put yourself first and take the time to eat properly, get your vitaimins in and EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE.

I wish you the best--don't let that doctor get you down---SHOW HIM what you can do!!

Thanks Kim.  Yes, I've started lowering the carbs (again) and lost 3 lbs in like 4-5 days.  I am going to the gym more than ever.  I calculated my weight based on 10 lbs a month and I should be pretty much at goal if not close to it by Dec 1st.  But I'm trying to do what I can to pu**** up a bit.

As for hunger... I am hungry all the time and then when I lower the carbs, that changes.  So, I know what I have to do... you are right.

Thanks for the support.

Hi Gwen, I'm no expert so take this as a grain of salt.  I too am losing slower than I would like. My doctor has been very supportive though. Advise I have received related to the hunger and proper eating: More water,  Less carbs, Eat breakfast within the first half hour of waking(this sets you for the remainder of your day.)  And as stated above EXERCISES. It not only burns calories and strengthen your body, tones your muscles, but also helps relieve hunger. That's what I've been told. Let me know how you are doing. Nice to meet you.   Mag

Thanks Mag, yes, I am working on the carb thing and usually do pretty good with the water, but I keep working it!  I also made it to the gym 3 days this week, tomorrow will be my 4th day and that's a big improvement for me!  I used to only be able to walk about 2.5 mph before surgery, now I'm up to 3.0 with sprints up to 3.2 and 3.3.  Today I even did 2 miles instead of 1!  So I'm seeing improvement and I use that to keep on going.  I have always found that exercise makes me hungry, but I wonder if the more I workout and lose if that might change.  Thanks for the response!

Hang in there, Gwen. My surgeon did the same thing to me. He came pretty close to threatening me although I don't know exactly what he had in mind in the way of "punishment."

When I stopped to give them my co-pay at the window on the way out. The nurse was getting ready to set my next appointment and I told her I wasn't coming back. When she asked why I told her that I don't scare very easily but he really intimidated me. She said she would take care of it and she did! He has been great ever since.

I will say a prayer for you that the situation improves.

Welcome to the group Gwen.  I work with MD's, they do not all have the same/supportive bedside manners.  Know that your's has your best interests in mind.  Do what is prescribed by your surgeon, they have had results with their techniques.  Get in the protein/water/supplements.  I feel more hungry when I have added carbs, satisfied when I consume more proteins, especially dense proteins.  The shakes went through my system quickly.  Real foods satisfy for longer.

Congrats on your success.  This is a lifestyle you are shaping during this first year.  Do what you can to follow orders.  Come here to share and vent.  We are here to wander along this path with you.  Support and encouragement go a long ways.  Hugs
