Flying after Surgery?

Hi All!! I am having LapRNY on May 13th and my father wants to send me and my son plane tickets to Florida (where he lives) for a couple weeks after surgery (probably after my 2 wk followup). Is it ok to fly then?

I don't see why not.  Make sure that you are walking the isles once or twice during the flight and moving your legs and feet to prevent blood clots.  And drink!  If you are not having any problems, I can't see why the MD would say no.  Enjoy it!

I agree with James but recommend checking with your surgeon as well.  That is so sweet of your dad and I'm sure he'll understand if you have to put it off for a couple of weeks.  Patrece, who started this group, had plastic surgery out of the country and flew back home within a week so I don't see why there would be a problem.  Good luck!

Jeanine, check with your surgeon, should be fine as long as you are recovering without trouble.  As the others said, walk a few times during the flight.  Great to have family around during your recovery.  I went on a cross country road trip with my dad about 4 weeks after surgery.  We stopped every  couple of hours to stretch and walk about.

Bring protein sources along, medications/supplements.  Let us know what the MD agrees to.  Hugs
