Anyone else ever need a vacation? from themselves?
WOW. What a lot of great discussions on here. Sometimes when I can't sleep I read a lot of the posts, and sometimes most of my questions are answered. Also, I get so inspired from all of you, that it gives me that little extra "umph" that I need sometimes to keep going.
It's been 7 months post op Lab-Band. I've lost about 65 pounds.
Everything is going fantastic. Doc is really pleased about my progress.
Last week Thursday though I had had it !!!
I needed a break from........... myself.
I was tired of going to the gym everyday for 90 minutes.
I was tired of tracking my food intake.
I was tired of journaling.
I was tired of cleaning house.
I was tired of the freezing weather.
I was tired of my vitamins.
I was tired of keeping it all together.
I was just really tired of being myself.
My friends tried all kinds of encouragment.... like "You're doing great - keep it up!", and things like "look how far you've come, don't quit now"........ and then there's the ....... "remember your Lap Band is only a tool, you need to do the rest."............. All that encouragement didn't help, while it was appreciated, it didn't help.
I just quit.
I quit all of the above. For 4 days I was on vacation.
For 4 days I was the "rule breaker" instead of the "rule follower", I was the junk food eater, instead of the health food eater, I was the stay-in-bed all day mom, instead of the up-and-at-em mom. I had had it!!!!! Almost like I had a mini break-down. Needless to say, I wasn't the most enjoyable person to be around.
This morning is better. I am looking forward to getting back to the gym.
I'm looking forward to Zumba tonight.
I am back on my vitamins, and tracking my proteins and food intake.
I am back, and I can't say I feel guilty for my vacation (even if I did gain weight).
I think my mental state is healthier now.
I know I am way to smart to let this kind of thing happen too often.
I know how far I've come. I know once the weather gets warmer, it will be so much better to actually get outside and move, walk a few 5K's, and play tennis.
It was just a little scary to feel llike that.
Wondering if anyone else has ever taken a vacation from themselves?

Hi Jeannine, you put words to what many of us feel. Thankgoodness that you are back on track. We do need vacations from our lives from time to time. Have you taken a "vacation" as in away from home, away from the usual. We do need breaks from the day to day life. Winter has been long, we all need a change of seasons. Come on spring, I know you can appear, we need you nowwwwwwww!!
I am proud that you limited yourself to 4 days. Change up things from time to time, maybe a different exercise, try a different recipe, definitely come to OH and post/share with us. We do not want to sabatage everything that we have accomplished. You have accomplished a great task, changed your habits, those 65 pounds are gone. Welcome back to life!

We took a mini-vacation last year 1 month post-op.
We are taking a vacation this June. Looking forward to that.
It's supposed to be in the 40's and sunny here on Wednesday.
It's almost fun to get back on track. They missed me at the gym, and I am going to Zumba twice this week, so it's something to look forward to.
Thanks so much Kathy.

I am so ready for a change in seasons. Almost got to a zumba demonstration class last week, had to work instead. I plan to participate the next chance I get. We had a couple of days in the 50's last week, then back to near zero. Good news, the 50's melted the top surface of the snow enough that I can now walk on top of the snow bank. I can walk on water, lol.
We need to take breaks from time to time, then jump back into life. Welcome back, hugs
