i weigh about 354 lbs, i'm 39 years old, and i'm kinda terrified.
thanks :)

Welcome to the group. We have all done this, the 6 month diet, nutritionists, psych eval. No one laughs at us, they are all here to help us do our best to be prepared for successful surgery.
Go to the appointment with any and all questions, bring a list to remember all your questions. They do not expect you to be 100% successful with the diet, just to start learning new habits and behaviors. We here at the group are here to help too.
I went to my initial seminar 2 years ago in feb. Started the 6 month supervised diet in march, and had my RNY in sept. From the start, no one laughed, only supported. Any questions we can assist with at this point? Today is chat session, reminder in another post. Attending chat sessions is a great way to get feedback from several members. Folks attend for all or part of the chat session as schedules allow. We talk about things that are on the minds of those in attendance. I am now about 17 months out from my RNY and still learning a thing or two. For starters, give up soda pop, cigarettes and journal your foods. This journal will assist your dietician pinpoint things that you can change. Take the changes one or two at a time and every few days or couple of weeks add another change until these new habits develop. I had a hard time separating food from fluids during the pre op time. This is hard when we are used to drinking lots with a meal. I find that I am satisfied longer and feel better when I wait 30 minutes after eating to drink fluids. I feel overly full when I try to drink with a meal. Use salad size plates instead of the larger dinner plates.
Hope this helps, anything else????? Looking forward to getting to know you better. Hugs

No one is laughing at you and if they do..leave immediately! never let anyone make you feel that uncomfortable. I am almost a year out and it's been the best decision i have made. I began at 371 lbs and now weigh 194. I too am 39 and I feel like my life is just beginning.
You have to be dedicated. here are something I was wondering about at first..
1-will i be sick all the time? -You could but as long as you follow the steps about what to eat you should be ok. At a year out, next month, i've only been sick a handful of times and it was all because of things I knew I should bnot eat.
2-The Pain- I did not have a lot of pain, It was actually surprising how little pain I had, the 2nd day was the worst.
3-Is this going to be one more thing I fail at?- Once you get the weight off and you know exactly what to do to keep it off, you have a better out look on yourself and you want to stay that way.
Good Luck

Angeanetted,
Hi, My name is Brenda Holland and I'm terrified and feel a bit lonely too. I'm new to this whole thing also.
I've been researching as much as I can "between college courses" and there's a lot to remember. Lately I've felt overwhelmed with all the appointments and testings that I've had to set up and I've become more acquanted with my yearly calander. If anything, I'm certainly more organized with my weekly schedules...ha! I can't offer any real advice, but I figure I could offer my support and friendship. We can grow thinner together ...ha!
By the way, no one is laughing at you -- at least I hope not, cause that would be just weird.
Don't forget to take time to breath between tests and diet courses, and weigh ins.... other's have told me that the time will fly.
Brenda
