I have heard many people talk about vomiting after surgery.

Is that a "normal"? Does it happen to everyone? How long will it last? Does it hurt?

Just curious... Thanks

Hi Jenn, I have only thrown up once since surgery.  That time was probably my fault too.  I tried raw carrots for the first time, probably a few weeks too early.  The carrots did not settle with my pouch, and it rejected them.  I actually felt better after my pouch emptied itself.

I do get something stuck from time to time.  This feels like a pill that doesn't get all the way to your pouch.  Saliva won't go down and I feel best if I keep walking until the stuck food settles into my pouch.  Usually happens when I eat too fast and do not chew well enough.  Follow your MD's advice to chew things to a pulp before swallowing.

Go into this thinking that you will do well.  Mental attitude is the start of everything.  Take this one bite at a time.  Your pouch will tell you when enough is enough.  Hugs

I hear that nausea is pretty common after surgery.  Have had nausea really just once sinc esurgery and I am 6 weeks out.  I have vomitted a few times, but most of the time its either because I tried something new and my pouch didnt like it or I overate.  Even with that it is mostly kinda like a reflux thing.  Pretty much once my stomach is emptied (less than a few minutes) i am fine.  it does not hurt.

Since then I am leaning what my pouch is saying to me.  Since I dont really get a "full feeling" I have to pay attention to what I am eating and how much.  I can tolerate about 1/2 cup at a time now.
